Position Overview

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for assembling, installing, modifying, and testing mechanical components and systems used in power generation equipment, including gas turbine packages and aviation-derived turbine systems. This role supports the assembly and integration of equipment associated with industrial power generation projects, including projects utilizing turbine technology. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with rotating equipment, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and assembly instructions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently perform complex mechanical assembly, fitting, mounting, alignment, adjustment, and integration of engines, gas compressors, hydraulic pumps and motors, and related equipment.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, blueprints, assembly instructions, and technical specifications to determine proper assembly and installation requirements.
  • Perform advanced precision measurements, dimensional checks, alignment, fit-up, and torquing using precision measuring instruments and specialized tools.
  • Conduct operational and functional testing of completed mechanical systems and identify and correct performance or assembly issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Support the integration of skid-mounted equipment and associated hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
  • Perform detailed quality inspections and verify completed assemblies meet engineering specifications, tolerances, and quality requirements.
  • Identify recurring assembly or equipment issues and recommend process improvements to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, and other technical teams to resolve complex assembly and equipment integration issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to L1 and L2 technicians, including assisting with complex assembly, fitting, alignment, and testing activities.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety procedures, quality standards, engineering requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, measurements, testing, discrepancies, and corrective actions as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 years of mechanical assembly experience in manufacturing, power generation, aerospace, oil & gas, heavy industrial equipment, or related industries.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly documentation.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and mechanical assembly equipment.
  • Personal basic hand/power tools are required
  • Ability to understand mechanical systems, piping layouts, and equipment integration.
  • Experience with skid-mounted equipment assembly.
  • Ability to lift-up 50 pounds and work in a manufacturing/shop environment.
  • Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as required by project schedules.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, assemblies, and production processes
  • Proven experience with complex assemblies, precision alignment, and system integration
  • Ability to lead small tasks, make decisions, and support problem-solving
  • Ability to interface with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or Mechanical fields
  • Experience with gas turbines, aviation-derived turbines, or power generation equipment.
  • Experience with pneumatic systems, hydraulic components, or basic electrical routing
  • Knowledge with torque specifications, precision measuring tools, and quality documentation
  • Familiarity with FTAI Aviation turbine systems, GE LM2500/LM6000, Siemens, Solar, or similar turbine technologies.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
  • Forklift, crane, or rigging certifications.
  • Mechanical trade school, technical certification, or military mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Technical training or associate degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or related field
  • Experience with pneumatic systems, hydraulic components, or basic electrical routing
  • Familiarity with torque specifications, precision measuring tools, and quality documentation

The role requires flexibility to work extended hours, including days, and as needed, nights, weekends, and holidays to support project and service requirements.

Work conditions may vary and include indoor and outdoor settings, exposure to varying weather conditions, and active industrial or construction sites. The Mechanical Assembler must consistently follow all safety protocols and properly utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
