Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative seeks an Industrial Mechanic at Pioneer Generation Station in Williston, ND. You will service, replace and repair plant equipment, perform light machining, insulation work, and support preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, assisting with major maintenance prep, and coordinating with the warehouse for shipping. Valid driver's license required. This is a full-time, on-site position with safety as a core value.

Qualifications

• Completion of a 2-year certificate and 1 year of industrial mechanic experience.
• DOL approved apprentice program with 1 year industrial mechanic experience.
• High school diploma or GED with 3 years’ industrial mechanic experience.
• Valid driver's license.

Job description

This position is at our Pioneer Generation Station location in Williston, ND.
Services, replaces and performs mechanical repairs to plant equipment as assigned. Completes light machine work, insulation removal and replacement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with safe work procedures
• Contribute to overall plant safety by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety training, energy verification, and by adhering to all plant regulations and procedures
• Maintain and repair all plant equipment and ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
• Perform preventative, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and trouble shoot to solve station mechanical and technical problems.
• Perform ground maintenance (mowing, watering, removing snow), painting and cleaning company property.
• Maintain accurate records and reports of all pertinent information on plant equipment.
• Assist with developing preventive maintenance procedures and guidelines for repairing and maintaining plant equipment
• Assist with preparing equipment for major maintenance activities such as draining and installing fluids.
• Assist Warehouse with preparing equipment for shipping; ship and receive materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of a 2-year certificate and 1 year of experience as an industrial mechanic or related; or
• A DOL approved apprentice program in industrial mechanics or an associated trade; and 1 year experience as an industrial mechanic or related; or
• A high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and 3 years’ experience as an industrial mechanic or related.
• A valid driver’s license.
  

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires continuous standing; frequent walking, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds; and occasional sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling and crawling. This position is continuously exposed to dirt and dust; frequently exposed to extreme heat, fumes, chemicals, vibration, and noise; and hot to cold, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. The incumbent may be required to work in confined areas using scaffolding and catwalks and at heights up to 300 feet, which requires the use of safety equipment, including a harness, in accordance with ANSI Z359 standards. This position requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, and the ability to perform close work. Equipment and tools operated include forklift, crane, hoist, come along, sling, jack hammer, machine cutting tools, drill press, hand tools, saw, drill, sander, impact wrench, and hydraulic, pneumatic and measuring tools. This position is required to be respirator qualified.

KEY SKILLS

• Knowledge of industrial mechanical equipment and machine shop tools and equipment.
• This position is required to repair equipment under pressure due to time constraints (such as outages, etc.).
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
