Job summary

RMS Energy seeks a Mechanical Technician II to inspect, diagnose, repair, and test machines ensuring safe, reliable return to service in line with industry standards. You’ll document findings, develop repair estimates for labor and materials, and perform complex revisions with independent judgment.

Expect to mentor Tech I staff, source parts, and maintain thorough records from intake to release. Travel up to 75% is required across the continental U.S., with a focus on safety and high-quality

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive mechanical inspection and repair experience.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical systems including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical-mechanical.
  • Proficient in developing accurate labor and material estimates.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Skilled with precision measuring and diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently receive and perform full inbound inspection of incoming machines, equipment, or product.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and determine root cause using industry-standard methods and diagnostic tools.
  • Prepare complete inspection reports including condition assessment, suggested repairs, and estimated labor and materials for approval.
  • Communicate findings and estimates clearly to supervisors, sales, or customers as needed.
  • Perform approved repairs, including more complex mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic work.
  • Inspect and test repaired equipment to industry standard and certify for release.
  • Identify and source required parts and materials; coordinate with purchasing/vendors as needed.
  • Review and validate Tech I inspection findings, estimates, and repair work; mentor and train Tech I staff.
  • Maintain accurate, complete documentation for every unit from intake through release.

Job description

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician II to receive, inspect, diagnose, repair, and test machines, equipment, and products to ensure they are safely and reliably returned to service in accordance with industry standards. This role performs repairs from initial inspection through final testing and release, including accurately documenting findings, developing repair recommendations and estimates for labor and materials, performing complex approved repairs, and verifying completed work. You will serve as an experienced resource within the team, applying sound technical judgment, working with greater independence, and supporting the development of less experienced technicians.

What You’ll Do:
  • Independently receive and perform full inbound inspection of incoming machines, equipment, or product
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and determine root cause using industry-standard methods and diagnostic tools
  • Prepare complete inspection reports, including condition assessment, suggested repairs, and estimated labor and materials for approval
  • Communicate findings and estimates clearly to supervisors, sales, or customers as needed
  • Perform approved repairs, including more complex mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic work
  • Inspect and test repaired equipment to industry standard (e.g., OEM specifications and applicable codes) and certify for release
  • Identify and source required parts and materials; coordinate with purchasing/vendors as needed
  • Review and validate Tech I inspection findings, estimates, and repair work; mentor and train Tech I staff
  • Maintain accurate, complete documentation for every unit from intake through release
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
The Experience We’re Looking For:
  • 3+ years of progressive mechanical inspection and repair experience
  • Strong diagnostic skills across mechanical systems, including hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical-mechanical
  • Proficient in developing accurate labor and material estimates
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and manufacturer specifications
  • Skilled with precision measuring and diagnostic equipment
Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% across the continental U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests
  • Available for extended and irregular hours as needed
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery
  • May require use of overhead cranes, hoists, or forklifts to move equipment (certification provided if required)
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activity
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
Bonus Points for:
  • Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certification
  • Welding experience (MIG, TIG, or stick)
  • Previous experience cutting with torch, plasma, or band saw
  • Previous electrical testing experience (continuity, voltage, resistance, and basic troubleshooting)
  • Prior experience training and mentor less-experienced technicians
