Job summary

Voyager Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Technician I to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment in an industrial setting. Under supervision, you will build proficiency in pumps, motors, pneumatics, and fluid systems while developing safe work habits and technical knowledge.

Progression to Technician II depends on demonstrated expertise, relevant certifications, and leadership behaviors on shift.

Qualifications

  • Trade certificate or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 1–3 years of maintenance experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, motors, mechanical seals, bearings, and belt drives.
  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, and related components.
  • Inspect and replace seals, bearings, and coupling hardware; ensure proper torque and alignment.
  • Maintain and diagnose belt drives and pulleys; monitor lubrication and wear.
  • Support chiller, pneumatic, and gas/utility systems maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Document maintenance activities and update CMMS with parts usage and history.
  • Follow LOTO and safety procedures; maintain a clean, organized work area.

The Mechanical Technician I performs structured preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment under supervision or with established procedures. This entry-to-mid level role focuses on building proficiency in core mechanical disciplines, such as pumps, motors, pneumatics, and fluid systems while developing safe work habits and technical knowledge. Progression to Technician II is based on demonstrated technical expertise, applicable certifications, and leadership behaviors on shift.

Key Responsibilities
Pumps & Motors
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on centrifugal, gear, and chemical metering pumps following documented procedures.
  • Couple pumps and motors using appropriate alignment methods; verify coupling clearances and torque fasteners to specification.
  • Rebuild centrifugal, gear, and chemical metering pumps including impeller inspection, seal replacement, and bearing installation.
  • Inspect, replace, and install mechanical seals, packing, and gaskets to prevent leaks and maintain equipment integrity.
  • Diagnose bearing failures; apply correct installation and lubrication procedures under guidance.
  • Efficient in supporting commissioning and systemization tasks.
  • Performs work with power tools, cordless tools and specialized equipment.
Drive Systems & Mechanical Components
  • Maintain and replace belt drives (V-belts, timing belts, flat belts), including tensioning, alignment, and pulley inspection.
  • Conduct basic shaft and coupling alignment using dial indicators; elevate complex alignment issues to senior technicians.
  • Service and replace filters across fluid, air, and hydraulic systems; maintain change-out logs and schedules.
Pneumatic Systems
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspection of pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, and air supply lines.
  • Identify and correct air leaks, verify operating pressures, and maintain regulator and filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) assemblies.
  • Assist in the replacement of pneumatic actuators and solenoid valves under direction.
Chiller & Cooling Systems
  • Support chiller system operations through routine component checks, visual inspections of cooling circuits, and fluid level monitoring.
  • Assist with refrigerant handling awareness and safety procedures; document findings and report anomalies to senior personnel.
Gas & Utility Systems
  • Assist with gas and utility system upkeep including line checks, pressure verification, and regulated shutoff procedures.
  • Follow established lockout/tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work procedures for all gas system tasks.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete all maintenance activities in the CMMS, including work orders, parts usage, and equipment history.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals at a foundational level.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) discussions and contribute observations for recurring failures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment; adhere to all safety, OSHA, and plant policies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Trade certificate, diploma, or equivalent technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related discipline; or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of pumps, motors, mechanical seals, bearings, and belt drives.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers).
  • Ability to read basic mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Knowledge of LOTO/LOTO-Plus, confined space entry, and safe work practices.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environments including heights, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms (SAP PM, Maximo, or similar).
  • Basic pneumatic or hydraulic systems coursework or on-the-job exposure.
  • Experience in chemical, water/wastewater, food & beverage, or general manufacturing environments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position operates in an industrial plant environment. The technician will be exposed to moving machinery, high temperatures, pressurized systems, and hazardous chemicals. Appropriate PPE is required at all times. The role may require shift work, on-call rotations, and periodic overtime to support continuous operations.

The good faith hourly range for this role is $29.00 – $32.00 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
