James Fisher Defence (JFD) Sweden in Vaxholm seeks a hands-on Mechanical Technician to assemble, test and maintain marine systems in a production workshop environment. You will ensure compliance with QA standards while meeting project deadlines and delivering high-quality work.

Qualifications

  • Experience in technically advanced, safety-critical environments and hands-on mechanical work.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of marine engines, waterjets, and workshop equipment.
  • Perform composite work, laminating, painting and system integration on products.
  • Conduct Factory, Harbour and Sea Acceptance Testing and support commissioning activities.
  • Operate workshop equipment safely and maintain documentation and QA records.
  • Maintain tools and work areas to high safety and readiness standards.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, adapting to changing priorities.

About the Role

Mechanical Technician

The Role

An experienced and hands‑on Mechanical Technician responsible for the assembly, manufacture, maintenance and testing of JFD Sweden products within a production workshop environment. Committed to delivering high‑quality work while ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards and procedures, they take ownership of tasks from start to finish and consistently meet demanding deadlines. With a methodical approach, strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset, they contribute effectively as part of a collaborative team and are always willing to go the extra mile to achieve successful outcomes. Experience in marine systems, commercial or leisure vessels, or related industries such as subsea, aviation or automotive is advantageous, but not essential.

What you’ll be doing
  • Assemble, install and test mechanical subassemblies and systems, including valves, pipework, propulsion units, diving air system, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, in line with technical specifications and project schedules.
  • Carry out installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of marine engines, waterjets, production craft systems and workshop equipment.
  • Perform composite work, laminating, painting and complete system integration on production craft and products.
  • Conduct Factory, Harbour and Sea Acceptance Testing, pre and post sea trial inspections, and support commissioning activities.
  • Operate workshop and lifting equipment, including forklifts, cranes, lathes, milling machines, welding equipment and surface craft, in a safe and effective manner.
  • Maintain accurate assembly documentation, product labelling and quality records, ensuring compliance with testing, certification and QA requirements.
  • Deliver high‑quality assembly, installation and maintenance work while managing workload to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are maintained to high standards of safety, organisation and operational readiness.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, demonstrating flexibility, accountability and a proactive approach to changing priorities and new challenges.
What we’re looking for
  • Experience working in technically advanced, quality driven and safety critical environments, with hands on knowledge of diesel engines and associated subsystems.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow technical drawings, documentation and written work instructions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Swedish and English, with the ability to work effectively within a team and manage competing priorities.
  • Methodical, organised and detail‑oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Competent user of standard computer applications and systems.
  • Flexible and willing to travel to local and international sites as required.
Nice to have
  • Experience working with waterjet propulsion systems.
  • Valid forklift and crane certifications.
  • Ship's Officer Class VIII certification.
  • Commercial diving certification.
