Job summary

Veolia in Chilton is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to perform mechanical maintenance on conveyors, pumps, valves and related equipment at a biomass power station. You will document work, inspect and repair systems, and maintain CMMS logs. The role involves coordinating with contractors and managing spares, with opportunities to propose improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience maintaining conveyors, pumps, valves, compressors, hydraulics and similar mechanical systems.
• Strong problem solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Ability to work independently or in a team to deliver maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document mechanical maintenance on plant equipment at a biomass power station.
• Inspect, repair and maintain mechanical systems and components.
• Keep CMMS logs and drawings up to date.
• Propose modifications and improvements to plant equipment as appropriate.
• Coordinate with contractors to ensure safety and procedural compliance.
• Manage spare parts and consumables on site.

Job Overview

Salary: £43,000.00 per annum plus Veolia benefits.

Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon‑Fri 07:30am – 4pm

Location: Chilton, Durham, DL17 0PB

Responsibilities

• Perform and document mechanical maintenance on conveyors, pumps, valves, compressors, hydraulic and any mechanical equipment found on a biomass power station
• Excellent problem solving and solution resolution, demonstrating root cause analysis using appropriate tools and techniques
• Inspect, repair and maintain all types of mechanical systems
• Maintain files, logs and drawings for all mechanical systems using the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Propose and develop modifications and improvements to plant/apparatus as appropriate
• Liaise with contractors carrying out mechanical tasks/projects to ensure compliance with company procedures
• Control of mechanical spares and consumables on site

Qualifications

• Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship
• Qualified to at least HNC or equivalent in Engineering (desirable)
• Detailed knowledge of all aspects of maintenance techniques associated with mechanical systems
• Understanding and interpretation of mechanical drawings
• Ability to work on own or as part of a team effectively and efficiently
