Job summary

Loenbro is currently seeking a Mechanical Superintendent in Salt Lake City to lead field mechanical construction for water treatment, wastewater treatment, and industrial infrastructure projects. You will oversee installation activities, plan workforce, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate with engineers, owners, and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule and within budget.

Job Summary

Loenbro is currently seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to join our team. The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for leading and managing all field mechanical construction operations for water treatment, wastewater treatment, pump station, and industrial infrastructure projects. This role oversees installation activities, workforce planning, scheduling, safety compliance, quality control, and productivity to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications and applicable regulations.

The Mechanical Superintendent works closely with Project Managers, electrical and civil teams, subcontractors, engineers, owners, inspectors, vendors, and clients to coordinate daily construction activities and resolve field challenges.

  • Field Operations Management: Lead and manage all field mechanical construction activities on water treatment, wastewater treatment, pump station, and industrial infrastructure projects. Develop and execute daily and weekly work plans to support project schedules and critical milestones. Coordinate labor, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractors to maximize productivity and efficiency. Independently organize and manage project startup, mobilization, and site operations. Ensure proper sequencing and coordination of mechanical installations with electrical, civil, and structural activities.
  • Workforce Leadership: Supervise and support foremen, craft professionals, welders, pipefitters, millwrights, riggers, laborers, and subcontractors. Establish clear performance expectations and promote accountability across project teams. Assist with recruiting, training, mentoring, and workforce development initiatives. Foster a collaborative work environment focused on safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Safety Management: Promote and enforce Loenbro's safety culture and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) policies. Conduct daily safety meetings, field inspections, and hazard assessments. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, project-specific safety requirements, confined space procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and applicable industry standards. Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate construction activities with project management, engineers, owners, inspectors, vendors, subcontractors, and other trades. Participate in project planning meetings, schedule reviews, and coordination efforts. Identify and proactively resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and project risks. Support change order identification, documentation, and implementation.
  • Mechanical Systems Installation: Oversee installation of mechanical systems including process piping, ductile iron piping, stainless steel piping, HDPE piping, pumps, valves, blowers, compressors, chemical feed systems, process equipment, and treatment plant infrastructure. Ensure all installations are performed in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and industry best practices. Coordinate equipment setting, rigging operations, alignment, and mechanical startup activities. Verify equipment and system installations meet operational and performance requirements.
  • Quality Control and Compliance: Ensure all mechanical installations comply with contract documents, project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. Conduct inspections and verify compliance with approved drawings and installation requirements. Support testing, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities. Maintain accurate field documentation, reports, inspections, and project records.
  • Schedule and Productivity Management: Monitor workforce productivity and project progress to ensure milestones are achieved. Coordinate manpower forecasts and resource planning with project management. Identify schedule impacts and implement recovery plans when necessary. Support project cost control initiatives through efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Other Duties: Other duties may be assigned as needed to support business operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • 7+ years of mechanical construction experience with progressive field leadership responsibilities.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Mechanical Superintendent, General Foreman, Lead Superintendent, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience managing mechanical scopes on water treatment plants (WTP), wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), pump stations, industrial process facilities, municipal infrastructure projects, or heavy industrial construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of process piping systems, pumps, valves, blowers, mechanical equipment installation, equipment alignment, rigging practices, and treatment plant operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple crews, subcontractors, and trade partners in active construction environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Procore, Microsoft Office, and other construction management software.

Preferred:

  • Experience managing municipal wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) or water treatment plant (WTP) construction projects.
  • Experience with process piping systems including stainless steel, ductile iron, carbon steel, PVC, and HDPE.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Experience with water and wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, blowers, clarifiers, chemical feed systems, filters, and process equipment.
  • Experience coordinating testing, commissioning, startup, and turnover activities.
  • Familiarity with public-sector contracting requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
