Job description

Depending on size and complexity, a Subsystems Engineer may own one or more vehicle systems (Propulsion, Fuel/Energy Storage, Electrical, Avionics, Landing Gear, Flight Controls, Hydraulics, Environmental Controls/Pressurization, etc.), or work as part of a team developing a single system to maturity.

Responsibilities include translating requirements into designs that support overall aircraft goals through concept development, detailed design and analysis, documentation, fabrication oversight, installation, testing, and system expertise during integrated testing and flight operations.

This role offers hands‑on involvement with aircraft systems, including troubleshooting, testing, and supporting vehicle integration and flight test activities. We are seeking experienced subsystems engineers who can contribute immediately and have the potential to grow into leadership positions.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop end‑to‑end mechanical sub‑system concepts
  • Determine loads and system demands based on vehicle requirements
  • Analyze system performance, document work, and present results for review
  • Design fault‑tolerant behavior for critical subsystems
  • Develop build documentation and supervise fabrication and integration
  • Develop and conduct functional, acceptance‑level, and qualification‑level testing
  • Support flight test activities with system knowledge and expertise
  • Mentor early‑career engineers based on experience and domain knowledge
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of relevant subsystems design experience
  • Understanding of and ability to analyze system behavior
  • Knowledge of related system components and their functions
  • Ability to operate test and vehicle instrumentation to verify system performance
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience with 3D CAD
  • Ability and interest to work across multiple engineering disciplines on an aggressive schedule
  • Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline or substantial equivalent experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience leading and managing engineering teams
  • Experience with NX, CATIA V5, or SolidWorks
  • Rapid prototyping experience
  • Hands‑on design and build experience
  • Aerospace experience (work history, pilot's license, experimental aircraft building, etc.)
  • Additional degrees or additional relevant work experience
