Job description

Extracta Group is hiring a Mechanical Specialist to keep our Texas operations running at peak performance. You will maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy machinery, vehicles, hydraulic systems, and specialized extraction equipment used in our copper cable decommissioning work. This 1099 contractor role (part-time or full-time) is based at our Denton, TX yard with field calls as needed. We’re looking for a hands‑on, organized technician who embodies Integrity, Ownership, Proactive Innovation, Collaborative Excellence, Rigor, and Value Creation.

Responsibilities
  • Execute preventive maintenance and repairs on trucks, hydraulic machinery, and extraction equipment
  • Diagnose, service, and repair diesel and gasoline engines (fuel, exhaust, ignition, cooling)
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including PTOs, rams, pumps, hoses, and fittings
  • Service and repair small equipment (water trash pumps, Lip rollers, sheaves, yard tools)
  • Operate and support upkeep of specialized extraction equipment (e.g., Chopper Truck)
  • Follow and continuously improve structured maintenance schedules for all assets
  • Perform torch and electrical welding for repairs and light fabrication
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems for vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Use digital tools (Excel, email, workflows) to manage work orders, parts requests, and repair logs
  • Communicate with vendors for quotes, parts sourcing, and shop repairs; track third‑party service jobs
  • Provide on‑site troubleshooting and emergency repairs to minimize downtime
  • Maintain an organized, safe shop and yard environment (tools, parts, consumables)
  • Train team members on basic troubleshooting and safe operation practices
  • Support occasional travel to project sites; operate CDL‑required equipment if licensed
  • Model Extracta values and safety best practices in all tasks
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a mechanic or maintenance specialist for heavy equipment
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines and related subsystems
  • Proficiency in hydraulic systems (PTOs, rams, pumps, hoses, diagnostics)
  • Welding skills (torch and electrical)
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems
  • Hands‑on repair capability with small equipment (pumps, rollers, sheaves)
  • Computer proficiency for emails, work orders, parts requests, vendor communication, and repair tracking
  • Strong organizational skills to implement and maintain maintenance schedules
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred
  • Willingness to learn and operate specialized extraction equipment (e.g., Chopper Trucks)
  • Availability for occasional travel and on‑call response to urgent breakdowns
  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and ownership aligned with Extracta’s values
  • Ability to work on‑site at Denton, TX and perform field calls as needed
  • Comfort working as a 1099 contractor (part‑time or full‑time) with hourly compensation
