Job summary

RTX in Tucson, AZ is seeking a skilled technician to fabricate, assemble, install, diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, refrigeration, vacuum and gas systems for test equipment. You will perform functional tests, work from blueprints and drawings, and coordinate with engineers to modify test positions.

This onsite role requires a high school diploma, 3 years of hands-on fabrication experience, machine shop skills, ability to obtain DoD secret clearance, and compliance with union guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three (3) years of layout, fabrication, assembly, testing experience.
• Must read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
• Must have machine shop skills with lathes, mills, drills, grinders.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform fabrication, assembly, installation, diagnosis, repair and modification on hydraulic, pneumatic, refrigeration, vacuum, and gas systems.
• Conduct functional and operational tests on new or repaired units.
• Coordinate with engineers to modify test positions and equipment per standard practices.
• Provide sketches or diagrams to aid modifications.
• Prepare written test reports and maintenance recommendations.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor shop tasks as required.
• Operate hand tools and power tools including lathes, mills, and grinders.
• Work from design drawings and instructions requiring interpretation.

Position Type: Onsite

Security Clearance: DoD Clearance – Secret. U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.

What You Will Do

• Perform fabrication, assembly, installation, diagnosis, repair and modification on hydraulic, pneumatic, refrigeration, vacuum, and gas systems associated with test equipment.
• Perform functional and operational tests to check out new and/or repaired units.
• Coordinate with engineers to plan, lay out, and make mechanical modifications to test positions and units according to accepted standard practices to develop more practical arrangements for this equipment from a functional or service standpoint.
• Furnish supplementary sketches or diagrams to aid in accomplishing such mechanical modifications, as required.
• Make written reports of all tests and recommend refinements in test equipment and maintenance procedures.
• Perform periodic preventive maintenance, as directed.
• Perform brazing, soft and silver soldering, minor sheet metal work incidental to the work described herein.
• Use hand tools such as micrometers, dial calipers, indicators, height gauges, and operate portable power tools and machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, pedestal grinders, drill presses, band saws, and belt sanders incidental to the work described herein.
• Work from primary design drawings, prints, schematic flow diagrams, sketches or other diagrams, verbal and/or written instructions requiring considerable interpretation and application of shop theory in visualizing and determining the most practical procedure to follow for the work described herein.
• Perform related computer and clerical functions such as operating the shop floor control system, documenting equipment scheduling and maintenance records, requesting supplies, materials, and reporting of machines for repair.
• Rework, refurbish, and modify parts and equipment as required for the work described herein.

Qualifications You Must Have

• High School Diploma or Equivalency (GED).
• Must be able to work any designated shift, including overnight.
• Three (3) years experience in the layout, fabrication, assembly, checking, and testing of hydraulic, vacuum, pneumatic and refrigeration mechanical and electromechanical equipment.
• Must also possess machine shop skills such as setting up and operating conventional lathes, mills, drills, and pedestal grinders.
• Must have worked from blueprints, primary design drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.
• Must have visualized and determined the most practical fabrication of the apparatus or equipment and the materials to be assembled.
• Must pass qualifying and/or practical test.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. secret clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• The ability to obtain and maintain an Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.
