Job summary

S&C Electric Company is seeking a Mechanical Quality Technologist in Franklin, WI. You will inspect mechanical assemblies and subassemblies in a manufacturing environment, interpreting drawings and BOMs to ensure conformance to specifications and ISO 9001 standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience, including assembly.
  • High school diploma required; related trade degree preferred.
  • Ability to read part drawings, BOMs, Sales Orders, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of mechanical subassemblies and final assemblies to ensure product quality.
  • Verify tolerances and conformity to specifications and drawings.
  • Record inspection results and initiate corrective actions for non-conforming parts.
  • Interpret BOMs and technical documentation to ensure production standards.
  • Maintain and calibrate testing equipment; ensure proper operation.
  • Follow ISO 9001 standards and contribute to continuous improvement.

Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $44,530 - $58,999.60. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Quality Assurance? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our US QA department. As a Mechanical Quality Technologist, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team.

The Mechanical Quality Technologist is responsible for inspecting and testing mechanical assemblies, subassemblies, and parts within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that mechanical components meet quality standards by conducting thorough inspections and tests according to established procedures. The role involves interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and test results, and documenting inspection results. The position requires strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of quality inspection methods, and the ability to operate mechanical testing equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections of mechanical subassemblies, final assemblies, and other mechanical fixtures to ensure compliance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Verify that mechanical components are assembled correctly and that tolerances meet established criteria.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation to ensure compliance with design and production standards.
  • Record and document inspection results, identifying non-conforming products and initiating corrective action as required.
  • Utilize, maintain, and calibrate mechanical testing equipment testing equipment, ensuring it is in proper working condition.
  • Collaborate with production teams to address quality issues and suggest improvements to processes.
  • Assist in developing and improving testing procedures and protocols based on findings and feedback.
  • Understand and follow ISO 9001 standards and ensure compliance in daily work.
  • Maintain detailed inspection logs and reports for review by supervisors.
  • Assist in maintaining the safety of the work area by following relevant safety guidelines for handling mechanical components and equipment.
  • Continuously develop skills related to mechanical testing and inspection techniques, with a focus on pursuing relevant certifications (e.g., ASQ, ASME).
  • Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.

  • Work with departmental mentors to gain and apply feedback in pursuit of improved work quality.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required

What you’ll Need To Succeed:

  • 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing experience, such as assembly.
  • High school diploma
  • Sound understanding of mechanical systems. Able to complete troubleshooting tasks to identify issues within these systems.
  • Ability to understand part drawings, Bills of Material, Sales Orders, & Technical Documents.
  • Good understanding of ISO 9001.
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment on a product floor and open to learning new concepts of mechanical/product testing.
  • Proficient in performing precise and delicate tasks using hands and fingers. Able to manipulate small objects, operate tools, and handle intricate equipment effectively.
  • Sound attention to detail, with the ability to follow detailed instructions and identify correct vs. incorrect product functions.
  • Rounded communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in a variety of production support departments.
  • Good computer skills with the ability to review and respond to requests and use Microsoft/ERP applications.
  • Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Good shop math skills with the ability to calculate measurements.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team members inside and outside of the department.
  • Ability and willingness to follow Health, Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.
Preferred
  • Associate degree in a trade or related mechanical/electrical field.
  • Experience working in an inspection role in a manucturing organization.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles.
  • ASQ Certification
Environmental and Hazardous Conditions
  • Occasionally working indoors/outdoors in an air-conditioned/non-air-conditioned office/manufacturing/site-based environment.
  • Infrequently exposure to fumes/vapors/dust/gases/odors/mist/toxic chemicals/radiation/vibration/grease/oils/radiation/lasers/other etc.
  • Occasionally exposed to low/moderate/high noise levels including machinery/vehicles/forklifts/office equipment/office traffic etc.
  • Infrequently working around energized equipment with the risk of electrocution/scalding/burns/other etc.
  • Infrequently exposed to wet humid/outdoor weather/extreme cold (non-weather)/extreme heat (non-weather) conditions/other etc.
  • Infrequently working with machinery with moving parts/vehicles/forklifts/heavy machinery/sharp objects/other etc.
