Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum five years of experience in proposal engineering, estimating, or industrial project engineering.
  • Experience preparing both technical and commercial proposals.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer RFQs, specifications, drawings, and tender documents.

  • Develop complete technical proposal packages and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate supplier quotations and BOMs.

  • Participate in proposal review meetings with internal teams and customers.
  • Respond to customer technical questions during the proposal stage.

Job description

The Mechanical Proposal & Estimating Engineer is responsible for evaluating customer Requests for Quotation (RFQs), developing technical concepts, preparing cost estimates, coordinating supplier quotations, and delivering complete technical and commercial proposal packages.

The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management to ensure proposals are technically sound, commercially competitive, and submitted on schedule.

Key Responsibilities
Proposal Development
  • Review customer RFQs, specifications, drawings, and tender documents.
  • Analyze project scope, technical requirements, and commercial expectations.
  • Develop complete technical proposal packages.
  • Prepare commercial and financial proposals.
  • Develop project execution assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and technical clarifications.
  • Participate in proposal review meetings with internal teams and customers.
  • Develop equipment Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Estimate engineering, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up labor hours.
  • Prepare material take-offs and equipment quantity calculations.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations and subcontractor pricing.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through value engineering.
  • Prepare preliminary equipment layouts and process concepts.
  • Perform mechanical calculations and equipment sizing.
  • Review customer layouts and engineering documentation.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Process Engineering teams.
  • Request and evaluate supplier quotations.
  • Coordinate technical discussions with equipment manufacturers.
  • Respond to customer technical questions during the proposal stage.
  • Support customer presentations and proposal reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in proposal engineering, estimating, applications engineering, or industrial project engineering.
  • Experience preparing both technical and commercial proposals.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems.
  • Excellent understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, and equipment layouts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
