Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Mechanical Project Test Engineer to join our New Product Development team. You will evaluate potential risk areas, develop test protocols, design fixtures, execute tests, and analyze data to drive design decisions.

Responsibilities include test planning, fixture creation, data analysis, and collaborating with development teams to mitigate risks and support transition to production. BS in Mechanical Engineering with 1+ year of mechanical eng experience preferred; knowledge

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering mechanics, or similar.
• Experience with fitness products is a plus.
• Proficiency in engineering mechanics and design analysis.
• 3D CAD and related design analysis tools experience (SolidWorks preferred).

Job description

We're a leading global fitness company seeking a talented and hands-on Mechanical Project Test Engineer to work in our New Product Development (NPD) team as a specialist to evaluate and resolve potential risk and failure areas. Based on design analysis, use case study, and historical data, this engineer will establish test protocols, design and create test fixtures, set-up and execute tests, obtain and analyze data, then work with the development team on outcomes.

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

New Product Development

• Detailed mechanical and key component design review and analysis for potential failure and risk areas
• Partnership with related engineering functions on failure and risk analysis
• Test plan development and execution to mitigate design and use risks
• Product safety review process and expertise
• Understanding and application of regulatory and internal test standards
• Product specification review and analysis

Project Engineering

• Support the development team with multiple projects through the New Product Development process
• Support the development team for all phase gate deliverables and ensure completion to company standards
• Daily interaction with development teams on design and testing

Design and Test Engineering

• Development of test standards and procedures
• Design and hands-on creation of test fixtures, set-ups, and related equipment
• Participate in product safety review processes
• Obtain and analyze field and user data, develop and execute test protocols for root cause, design and verify solutions
• Perform detailed design analysis utilizing engineering mechanics, FBD's, FEA, fatigue analysis, and related
• Develop and review drawings, perform tolerance analysis, create and review sample parts

Production Transition support

• Develop functional requirements and test plans for transition of product into mass production

Requirements

Education

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering mechanics, or similar

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of mechanical engineering
• Well qualified candidates will possess engineering experience with fitness products and strong fitness market knowledge
• Expertise with engineering mechanics and design analysis
• Proficiency with fixture design, test setup, air cylinders, load cells, electro-mechanical control systems, and data acquisition
• Strong FEA, DFMEA, test plan development and execution skills
• Demonstrable experience designing components for various manufacturing processes including sheet metal, tube forming, machining, welding & joining, etc.
