Job summary

A Minneapolis-based product development company is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to own the complete mechanical development of a flagship product line from concept through prototyping, testing, and production.

You will design welded structures, machined components, and assemblies, create SolidWorks models and GD&T drawings, and select materials and processes for optimal performance. Strong testing and collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of mechanical product development experience.
  • Proven ability to design, prototype, test, and iterate mechanical systems.
  • Experience creating production drawings with GD&T and MDF considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Own the complete mechanical design and development of a flagship product line.
  • Design welded structures, machined components, assemblies and production-ready systems.
  • Create SolidWorks models, engineering drawings, and GD&T documentation.
  • Select materials and manufacturing processes to optimize performance and manufacturability.
  • Build and modify physical prototypes and perform tests for durability.
  • Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement design improvements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supplier partners throughout product development.
  • Communicate risks, tradeoffs, and project status across teams.

Job description

We are partnering with an innovative product development company that designs and manufactures some of the industry's most advanced connected sports training equipment.

About the Role

This is not a traditional mechanical engineering role where designs are handed off to someone else to build. Instead, you'll own the complete mechanical development of a flagship product line—from early concept and CAD design through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and continuous product improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Own the complete mechanical design and development of a flagship product line
  • Design welded structures, machined components, assemblies, and production-ready mechanical systems
  • Create detailed SolidWorks models, engineering drawings, and GD&T documentation
  • Select materials, components, and manufacturing processes to optimize performance and manufacturability
  • Build and modify physical prototypes
  • Weld, fabricate, machine, and assemble prototype components
  • Design and build custom test fixtures
  • Perform structural, functional, and durability testing
  • Investigate failures, identify root causes, and implement design improvements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supplier partners throughout product development
  • Assist with prototype builds, production launches, and ongoing product improvements
  • Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously
  • Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and project status
  • Partner with cross-functional teams throughout product development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of mechanical product development experience
Required Skills
  • Experience creating production engineering drawings utilizing GD&T
  • Experience designing welded structures, machined components, and assemblies
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, fabrication, and sheet metal
  • Experience developing and testing physical prototypes
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with sporting goods or fitness equipment
