Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager – Data Center Construction with field experience to oversee GC activities and provide schedule status reports to the owner. The role requires deep field technical expertise, strong leadership, and experience in large-scale data center or electrical contracting environments.

You will manage stakeholder communication, monitor milestones, and ensure design standards are applied while coordinating interfaces with suppliers and design teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of electrical project management experience in data center construction or with an electrical contractor.
  • Experience with substation and power distribution systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with MEP design and relevant codes and construction methods.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee General Contractor construction activities and report schedule status to the project owner.
  • Lead and coordinate with project stakeholders for timely delivery.
  • Communicate across internal teams to ensure consistent client delivery.
  • Analyze and manage critical milestone activities to prevent schedule slips.
  • Ensure governance, processes, and systems are applied across projects.
  • Produce formal project status and other required reports.
  • Monitor multiple construction projects to ensure design standards are followed.
  • Manage interfaces between suppliers via monthly trackers and weekly reviews.
  • Facilitate project information flow through meetings and written communications.
  • Forecast and update key project milestones and costs.
  • Manage local design teams per commission criteria.
  • Provide technical support to owners, architects, GC and stakeholders.
  • Respond rapidly to RFIs from the field.
  • Offer cost control, value engineering, and constructability guidance.
  • Review status reports, drawings, timelines and costs from architects/contractors.
  • Assist in developing relationships with Clients for new opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance to achieve client and business objectives.
  • Capture key learnings and seek process improvements.

Turner & Townsend is seeking an Mechanical Project Manager – Data Center Construction with Field Experience to support a high-profile data center construction project. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the General Contractor’s construction activities, with a strong focus on reporting on schedule status back to the project owner. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise from working in the field, strong leadership, and a background in large-scale data center/mission critical works or electrical contracting environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage and collaborate with project stakeholders.
  • Effective communication across our internal team to ensure efficiency and a consistent delivery to the client.
  • Can analyze, track, and effectively manage critical milestone activities to avoid schedule slip.
  • Verify that effective project governance, processes and systems are utilized.
  • Ensure application of best practice on all projects.
  • Production of formal project status reports and other reports as required.
  • Monitor the progress of multiple construction projects simultaneously to ensure that the approved design standards are being applied correctly.
  • Manage the interface between all suppliers through monthly trackers and weekly reviews.
  • Manage the flow of project information between the project team through regular meetings and written communications.
  • Forecast and update key project milestones.
  • Manage and monitor local design teams in accordance with commission criteria.
  • Provide technical support to owners, architects, general contractors and regional stakeholders.
  • Rapid response to RFIs from the field.
  • Provide expertise for cost control, value engineering, and constructability guidance where required.
  • Independent review of status reports, drawing submittals, timelines and costs from architects, contractors and suppliers.
  • Client management – assist in developing excellent working relationships with Clients, with a view towards maximizing new opportunities.
  • Strategic Thinking - provides advice to project teams on approaches that can be adopted to successfully achieve both clients’ objectives and business objectives.
  • Knowledge management – ensure that key information and learnings generated from each project is captured.
  • Process improvement – Identify ways to improve internal systems and processes
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of electrical project management experience, ideally in data center construction or with an electrical contractor.
  • Experience with substation and power distribution systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with MEP design
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and construction methodologies.
  • Proficiency in the Data Center Commissioning Process (levels 1 –5 )
  • Proficiency managing construction documents including BODs, specifications, contract drawings, C/D/E’s, equipment submittals and RFIs.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Procore, P6, CxAlloy, and other construction project management tools
