Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager – Data Center Construction to oversee GC activities, report schedule status to the owner, and lead field teams on large-scale data center projects. The role emphasizes strong field expertise, leadership, and a background in mission-critical electrical environments.

The candidate will manage multiple construction projects, ensure governance and best practices, and coordinate with owners, architects, and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of electrical project management experience, ideally in data center construction or with an electrical contractor.
  • Experience with substation and power distribution systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with MEP design.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and construction methodologies.
  • Proficiency in the Data Center Commissioning Process (levels 1–5).
  • Proficiency managing construction documents including BODs, specifications, contract drawings, C/D/Es, equipment submittals and RFIs.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Procore, P6, CxAlloy, and other construction project management tools

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and collaborate with project stakeholders.
  • Communicate across internal teams to ensure efficiency and client delivery.
  • Track and manage critical milestone activities to avoid schedule slips.
  • Verify project governance, processes, and systems.
  • Apply best practices on all projects.
  • Produce formal project status reports and other reports as required.
  • Monitor progress of multiple construction projects to ensure design standards are applied.
  • Manage interface between suppliers via trackers and reviews.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and written communications.
  • Forecast and update key project milestones.
  • Oversee local design teams per commission criteria.
  • Provide technical support to owners, architects, general contractors and regional stakeholders.
  • Respond rapidly to RFIs from the field.
  • Provide cost control, value engineering, and constructability guidance.
  • Review status reports, drawings, timelines and costs from designers and contractors.
  • Foster client relationships and seek new opportunities.
  • Offer strategic guidance to balance client and business objectives.
  • Capture key learnings from each project and drive process improvements.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, as applicable.

Turner & Townsend is seeking an Mechanical Project Manager – Data Center Construction with Field Experience to support a high-profile data center construction project. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the General Contractor’s construction activities, with a strong focus on reporting on schedule status back to the project owner. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise from working in the field, strong leadership, and a background in large-scale data center/mission critical works or electrical contracting environments.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively manage and collaborate with project stakeholders.
  • Effective communication across our internal team to ensure efficiency and a consistent delivery to the client.
  • Can analyze, track, and effectively manage critical milestone activities to avoid schedule slip.
  • Verify that effective project governance, processes and systems are utilized.
  • Ensure application of best practice on all projects.
  • Production of formal project status reports and other reports as required.
  • Monitor the progress of multiple construction projects simultaneously to ensure that the approved design standards are being applied correctly.
  • Manage the interface between all suppliers through monthly trackers and weekly reviews.
  • Manage the flow of project information between the project team through regular meetings and written communications.
  • Forecast and update key project milestones.
  • Manage and monitor local design teams in accordance with commission criteria.
  • Provide technical support to owners, architects, general contractors and regional stakeholders.
  • Rapid response to RFIs from the field.
  • Provide expertise for cost control, value engineering, and constructability guidance where required.
  • Independent review of status reports, drawing submittals, timelines and costs from architects, contractors and suppliers.
  • Client management – assist in developing excellent working relationships with Clients, with a view towards maximizing new opportunities.
  • Strategic Thinking - provides advice to project teams on approaches that can be adopted to successfully achieve both clients’ objectives and business objectives.
  • Knowledge management – ensure that key information and learnings generated from each project is captured.
  • Process improvement – Identify ways to improve internal systems and processes
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
