Job summary

Peterson Sheet Metal is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager – Commercial HVAC & Plumbing to lead commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects from preconstruction through closeout. This full-time role is based in Chanhassen, Minnesota, with regular visits to active jobsites.

The position requires ownership of project execution, budgets, scheduling, procurement, change management, and customer communication, along with mentoring field teams and ensuring profitability.

Qualifications

• At least five years of directly relevant commercial mechanical construction experience involving HVAC, plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems.
• Experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, labor, materials, subcontractors, and customer relationships.
• Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
• Strong leadership, organization, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and construction-related technology.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record under company policy.
• Ability to satisfy applicable pre-employment screening requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple commercial mechanical projects of varying sizes and complexity from preconstruction through closeout.
• Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, cost projections, and schedules of values.
• Monitor labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, billing, change orders, and overall project profitability.
• Coordinate manpower and project requirements with the General Superintendent and field leadership.
• Review plans, specifications, contracts, submittals, and other construction documents.
• Manage submittals, RFIs, change orders, permits, equipment and material procurement, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with owners, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, field teams, and internal departments.
• Conduct regular jobsite visits to evaluate progress, workmanship, contract compliance, and safety.
• Lead project meetings and provide timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Support and mentor foremen, journeymen, and other project team members.
• Manage commissioning, punch lists, O&M manuals, warranties, and final closeout documentation.
• Maintain strong customer relationships and help identify opportunities for future work.

Peterson Sheet Metal (PSM) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager – Commercial HVAC & Plumbing to manage commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects from preconstruction through final closeout. This full-time position is based in Chanhassen, Minnesota, and includes regular visits to active jobsites.

The Mechanical Project Manager will take ownership of project execution, financial performance, labor coordination, procurement, scheduling, billing, change management, customer communication, and closeout. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $90,000–$125,000 per year. Starting compensation will be based on directly relevant mechanical construction experience, technical expertise, previous project scope, leadership experience, and demonstrated ability to manage projects independently.

This position is also eligible for a performance-based company bonus opportunity. Previous mechanical project-management, assistant project-management, estimating, foreman, or superintendent experience.

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Professional or industry-specific licenses and certifications.

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

Experience with BIM/CAD, estimating, project-management, or construction accounting software.

Equivalent combinations of directly relevant education, trade training, field leadership, and project-management experience will be considered.
