Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of mechanical systems for construction projects. The ideal candidate will combine hands-on mechanical knowledge with strong project management skills to oversee HVAC, plumbing, and piping scopes from design through commissioning. You will manage project schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and client relationships to ensure safe, code-compliant, on-time, and on-budget delivery across healthcare, commercial, higher education, and hospitality projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical scope delivery for projects including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related systems from preconstruction through closeout.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts; proactively identify and mitigate risks to meet financial targets.
- Coordinate mechanical design reviews, constructability assessments, and submittal approvals with design teams, engineers, and consultants.
- Manage procurement and subcontractor selection, scope negotiation, and performance monitoring to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
- Oversee on-site construction activities, conduct regular site visits, and enforce safety, code, and quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting for mechanical systems during installation, testing, balancing, and commissioning.
- Prepare and present project status reports, change order requests, and progress updates to clients and senior management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to resolve design conflicts, coordinate MEP interfaces, and ensure seamless integration.
- Mentor and manage junior staff and field supervisors, promoting best practices in mechanical construction and project management.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of project management experience in mechanical construction or MEP projects; experience in healthcare, commercial, higher education, or hospitality environments preferred.
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC, plumbing, piping systems, controls, and commissioning processes.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and procurement with a track record of on-time, on-budget delivery.
- Familiarity with construction codes, standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to healthcare and commercial facilities.
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar) and experience with BIM/Coordination tools preferred.
- Excellent communication, client-facing, and negotiation skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- OSHA safety training and commitment to enforcing safety protocols on job sites.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PE (Mechanical), LEED, or NICET are a plus.
