Job summary

Vallourec - North America in Houston, TX seeks a Project Engineer to serve as a technical authority in the design, development, optimization, and maintenance of mechanical systems supporting capital projects across steelmaking operations.

You will lead mechanical engineering projects, oversee design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance, develop CAD designs, coordinate vendors, and collaborate with operations and maintenance to boost reliability, safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (required), Master's preferred
• 4+ years in mechanical or maintenance engineering in steelmaking or heavy manufacturing
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluids, hydraulics, materials science, mechanical design, rotating equipment
• Familiarity with ASME/ASTM codes and relevant building codes
• Proficiency with CAD software and engineering analysis tools
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, coaching, and leadership skills
• PE certification and/or Six Sigma certification preferred
• English proficiency required; Spanish a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical projects across melting, casting, rolling mills, furnaces, conveyors, rotating equipment, hydraulics, and pipe threading
• Oversee design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical equipment for capital projects
• Develop designs and simulations using CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
• Coordinate vendors/contractors during procurement, installation, FATs and SATs
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, automation, quality, electrical and civil teams to improve plant performance
• Ensure safety, environmental, and industry standard compliance
• Evaluate and implement technologies to improve reliability and production
• Provide cost estimates, engineering documents, and cross‑departmental technical guidance
