Mechanical Project Engineer – HVAC / Thermal Systems

Indianapolis, IN | On-Site

Our manufacturing client is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to support the design and delivery of HVAC, refrigeration, cooling and thermal systems used in specialized industrial and aviation applications.

You do NOT need previous airport or aviation experience. We're looking for a mechanical engineer who understands HVAC, refrigeration, thermal systems or similar mechanical equipment and is comfortable taking technical projects from design through manufacturing and delivery.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with approximately 2–5 years of experience who enjoys a combination of engineering, project ownership and customer interaction.

What You'll Do

• Perform thermal, cooling-load and psychrometric calculations for equipment sizing and selection.
• Support design of HVAC, refrigeration and mechanical cooling systems.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, technical specifications and manufacturing documentation.
• Manage assigned engineering projects from technical kickoff through production and completion.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement and manufacturing to keep projects on schedule.
• Review customer specifications and identify technical requirements, exceptions and deviations.
• Prepare technical submittals and supporting documentation.
• Provide technical guidance to customers and the sales team during proposal and project stages.
• Support regulatory and product compliance requirements.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 2–5 years of mechanical, product, systems or project engineering experience.
• Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, thermal systems, cooling equipment, air handling or related mechanical systems.
• Understanding of heat transfer, cooling-load calculations and/or psychrometrics.
• Experience working with engineering drawings, BOMs and technical documentation.
• Ability to coordinate technical projects across engineering and manufacturing teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have — Not Required

• Compressors, refrigerant circuits or VFD experience.
• Packaged HVAC or industrial cooling equipment.
• PLC or controls exposure.
• CE, FAA, NEC or ASHRAE standards.
• Airport ground support equipment or Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) systems.

This role supports equipment used within the airport and aviation infrastructure industry, but direct aviation experience is not required.
