IMEG is growing, and we'd love to have you join our team! We are currently seeking a Mechanical Project Designer in our Woodbury, NY office. The Mechanical Project Designer will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects. Responsibilities include working closely with engineers and consultants to develop engineering solutions and advice for clients, focusing on mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. The role involves working within project budgets, mentoring team members, and collaborating to meet project and client goals.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Lead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, utilizing engineering software to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations per code and standards.
  2. Engage with clients to understand needs, gather requirements, and communicate technical information effectively, maintaining professional relationships.
  3. Support project execution through planning, budgeting, scheduling, documenting design decisions, and monitoring progress.
  4. Analyze engineering problems and develop innovative, practical solutions in collaboration with senior engineers.
  5. Conduct in-process design reviews, ensure quality standards are met, and adhere to industry and client requirements.
  6. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, contributing to research and development within IMEG.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety in all engineering activities, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Identify potential project issues and consult with Project Managers.
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction phases.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in technical design techniques, tools, and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics related to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Effective mentoring and training skills.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software, including load calculation tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and pay attention to detail.
  • Willingness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficiency in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, with occasional overnight stays.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in building design consulting, 6 years preferred; 9+ years with an associate degree or certificate in BIM or Engineering, 10+ preferred.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, or pull.

Salary Range $98,000 - $130,000, with variations based on location, experience, and other factors. Benefits include bonuses, stock options, health insurance, wellness programs, retirement plans, paid holidays, and PTO.
