Job summary

Genie Matthews and Associates is seeking a Project/Design Engineer to drive mechanical design for major capital expansions in Atlanta, GA. You will lead from scope through commissioning, overseeing equipment specification and design requirements.

The role involves coordinating with EPC firms, vendors and internal teams to ensure safe, reliable and maintainable designs that meet project objectives and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 7-10 years of relevant mechanical design/project engineering experience.
• Experience leading EPC firms, engineering contractors and equipment vendors.
• Knowledge of API, ASME and ANSI standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering efforts for capital projects from scope through construction and commissioning.
• Develop detailed project scopes, equipment specs and design requirements.
• Specify and oversee selection of static and rotating equipment (vessels, tanks, pumps, piping).
• Review and approve engineering deliverables from EPC firms, contractors and vendors.
• Collaborate with process, piping, electrical, controls and construction teams.
• Identify project risks and propose solutions.
• Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, constructability and maintainability standards.
• Support MOC and PHA activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical engineering efforts for capital projects, from initial scope development through to construction and commissioning.
• Develop detailed project scopes, equipment specifications, and design requirements.
• Specify and oversee the selection of static and rotating equipment, including vessels, tanks, pumps, and piping systems.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables from EPC firms, contractors, and vendors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including process, piping, electrical, controls, and construction.
• Identify potential project risks and propose effective solutions.
• Ensure all designs adhere to safety, reliability, constructability, and maintainability standards.
• Contribute to the development of engineering standards and support Management of Change (MOC) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) activities.

Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 7-10 years of experience in mechanical design and project engineering within chemical, petrochemical, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Proven experience leading EPC firms, engineering contractors, and equipment vendors.
• Extensive knowledge of industry standards such as API, ASME, and ANSI.
