Job summary

Daimler Truck North America in Portland, OR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to interior vehicle systems, from concept through CAD design to documentation. You will work on door/pillar trim, bunks, storage, upholstery, and accessories, supporting the full product development cycle.

The role emphasizes collaboration with manufacturing and design teams to balance performance, manufacturability, and cost, with opportunities to influence production readiness and product efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Engineering or related field with 2+ years of engineering experience OR 6+ years of related experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience applying mechanical engineering principles to design, development, testing, or improvement of mechanical products.
  • Experience creating/modifying engineering designs, drawings, models, or prototypes.
  • Experience supporting product development activities including testing, validation, troubleshooting, fabrication, or assembly.

Job description

Inside the Role Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops mechanical products, components, or systems including applying mechanical engineering principles to develop products, components, and systems that involve movement (e.g., engines, vehicles, robots, prosthetic devices, energy conversion systems, machinery, etc.)
  • Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype mechanical products and assemblies
  • Collaborates with marketing and industrial design teams to develop products that meet technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements
  • May also be involved with designing product specific manufacturing production processes and equipment

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 – $110,000 USD

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Contribute to the development of vehicle interior systems and components, including door and pillar trim, sleeper bunks, storage and console solutions, upholstery, floor coverings, and floor-mounted accessories
  • Responsibilities span the entire product development process, from concept creation and CAD design to component and vehicle-level documentation.
Knowledge You Should Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related technical field, AND two+ years of relevant engineering experience; OR six years of relevant engineering experience in lieu of a degree
  • Experience applying mechanical engineering principles to the design, development, testing, or improvement of mechanical products, components, assemblies, or systems
  • Experience creating or modifying engineering designs, specifications, drawings, models, or prototypes
  • Experience supporting product development activities including testing, validation, troubleshooting, fabrication, or assembly
  • An attached resume is required
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
  • Knowledge of DTNA Engineering Documentation procedures
  • Experience supporting prototype development, testing, validation, and production implementation
  • Experience using CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, or similar engineering design tools (preferred experience with injection molded plastic components)
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, industrial design, product management, marketing, quality, or suppliers
  • Experience balancing technical performance requirements with cost, manufacturability, reliability, and production efficiency objectives
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on optimizing products, processes, and team performance
  • Experience analyzing complex issues, determining root causes, and developing innovative technical solutions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present technical information
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve productivity, efficiency, or business outcomes
