Vallum Associates is supporting an on-site power plant serving a data center, incorporating modular generation, hydrogen-related process equipment, heat recovery, and closed-loop cooling.

We are seeking a Mechanical & Process Technician to support equipment installation, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting across the plant’s supporting systems.

The initial phase will place particular emphasis on hydrogen reactor installation and servicing, together with coordination of site preparation and contractor activities. The role will subsequently support ongoing plant maintenance and reliability.

Generator-unit maintenance is managed by the generator manufacturer. This position focuses on the surrounding mechanical and process infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Support installation and commissioning of hydrogen-related process equipment, fuel-feed systems, piping, valves, pumps, and associated auxiliaries.
  • Carry out mechanical inspections, installation checks, and equipment readiness checks against approved drawings and vendor instructions.
  • Assist with pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, and startup activities under approved procedures and specialist supervision where required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot process equipment, including reactors and associated byproduct handling and reprocessing systems.
  • Support servicing of heat recovery equipment, heat exchangers, and associated steam or thermal systems.
  • Inspect and maintain mechanical components of the closed-loop cooling system, coordinating specialist refrigerant work where required.
  • Diagnose faults involving flow, pressure, temperature, leakage, vibration, and equipment performance.
  • Work with electrical and controls technicians to identify mechanical, instrument, and control-related causes of plant faults.
  • Coordinate with the general contractor, mechanical contractors, equipment vendors, and commissioning team.
  • Complete maintenance records and follow approved isolation, gas safety, pressure-system, and permit-to-work procedures.

Required experience

  • Practical mechanical maintenance, millwright, process technician, or commissioning experience in an industrial facility.
  • Experience maintaining pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, and process equipment.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a disciplined approach to safe isolation and equipment servicing.
  • Ability to support equipment installation and work effectively with contractors and OEM specialists.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with hydrogen, industrial gases, natural gas, chemical processing, or other gas-handling systems.
  • Exposure to reactors, thermal processing equipment, solids handling, or byproduct recovery systems.
  • Experience with heat recovery, steam systems, or industrial cooling.
  • Familiarity with process instrumentation and automated plant equipment.
  • Relevant refrigerant certification if direct refrigerant-system servicing forms part of the final role.
