Amentum is seeking a Mechanical Process Designer to join our Advanced Solutions Group in the United States. Based at Tullahoma, TN or other U.S. offices, you will develop pipe and duct layouts and mechanical equipment drawings to support defense, energy, and aerospace projects.

We require CAD/CAE proficiency, 3D modeling experience, and ability to coordinate with multi-discipline teams to produce complete drawing packages for construction and startup.

• Two years of drafting or engineering education/experience.
• Working knowledge of CAE/CAD systems and drafting principles.
• Experience producing piping/ducting layouts and related drawings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Creo).
• Ability to produce clear, complete construction drawings and design details.

We are seeking a Mechanical Process Designer to join Amentum’s Advanced Solutions Group. Candidates may be based at either our Tullahoma, TN; Farmington Hills, MI; or Greenville, SC office. Our Advanced Solutions Group delivers the design, construction, and operation of unique and complex research and development facilities across the nuclear, automotive, motorsports, defense, and aerospace industries. Our team has supported an impressive range of clients, including Audi, Boeing, BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, Honda, General Motors, NASA, the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Department of Energy, Volkswagen, and organizations throughout North America, Europe, and Asia.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Work closely under the direction of the Lead Process Engineer.
• Prepare detailed construction drawings for pipe/duct layouts and mechanical equipment.
• Prepare engineering sketches, detailed drawings, and design information according to project standards and procedures.
• Communicate and coordinate directly with other disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, structural, and project team members.
• Ensure complete and timely production of drawing packages, spreadsheets, and databases to document design-related information.
• Become familiar with work processes for the office and the department.

Required Qualifications:

• US citizenship is required to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations.
• Requires certification of two (2) years training from a vocational school or two (2) years college with courses relevant to drafting or engineering principles plus a minimum of two (2) years of experience. Additional relevant education may be substituted for a portion of the progressive experience.
• Must have working knowledge of CAE/CAD systems.
• Requires working knowledge in the use of drafting equipment and in the application of drafting principles (descriptive geometry, lettering, dimensioning, layout, detail, etc.) and requires a general working knowledge piping/ducting and component layout commonly associated with process mechanical design.
• Requires working knowledge of understanding and producing process mechanical design and layouts drawings for construction (i.e. piping, ducting, P&ID’s, PFD’s, mechanical components, and supporting details.)
• Requires working knowledge of AutoCad.
• Working knowledge of 3D modeling and producing 2D construction drawings from the model is required (using software such as Plant 3D, Revit, Inventor, Creo or other related software packages).
• Able to produce a set of design and/or shop drawings that adequately depicts the design, is clear, concise, as free from errors as possible, and meets the job standards and specifications.

Description of Work Environment:

Work will mainly be performed in an inside-office environment. Field work may be required, including climbing test stands and working around machinery. Travel may be required to support design reviews, attend factory acceptance testing of equipment, support construction activities, and provide onsite support for startup and commissioning activities.

Compensation Details:

$55,000 - $70,000 The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good‑faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
