Job summary

Mueller Water Products, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to install, repair and maintain a wide range of mechanical equipment across our manufacturing operations. You will work with hydraulic, pneumatic, welding and machine tools to keep production running safely and efficiently.

The role requires reading blueprints, following procedures, and adapting to new methods. You will support other skilled trades, participate in training, and help maintain a clean, compliant work area

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Four years of verifiable trade experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Ability to pass a basic aptitude test, physical, drug/alcohol test and background screen.

Mechanical Maintenance Technician
Job Description

As a Maintenance Technician - Mechanical, you will perform all operations pertaining to the installation, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of mechanical equipment and processes. You will install, repair and maintain mechanical drives, bearings, clutches, hydraulics systems, pneumatic systems, perform welding, etc. Work involves a thorough knowledge of the mechanical trade, and an understanding of the plant operating principles is required to ensure that equipment functions properly and safely.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work consists of the installation, repair, removal, and rebuilding of all plant machinery, equipment, material handling equipment, company vehicles and the repairs of buildings and grounds
  • Be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Read, interpret and work from blueprints, layouts, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, along with making sketches and rough blueprints as required
  • Skillfully set up and operate a variety of machine tools used in the performance of their duties and be able to repair parts as required
  • Layout, set up, and perform all acetylene or electric welding and cutting operations as required
  • Install, repair, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Perform predictive/preventative maintenance operations as required, including adding oil or grease as necessary
  • Skillfully use all machinists’ tools and precision measuring instruments as required and sharpen tools as needed
  • Fabricate and modify machines/equipment as required
  • Containment and cleanup of hazardous materials including cleaning up job site and dispose of unwanted materials and used parts
  • Perform plumbing and boiler repairs as needed
  • Adapt to new methods and procedures as required
  • Assist other skilled classifications as required
  • Participate in additional training as related to their work
  • Operate material handling equipment, cranes, hoists and man-lifts in the performance of the duties
  • Operates production and non-production equipment and tools as required in the performance of the duties
  • Performs all duties in a professional manner while maintaining the highest standard of productivity and quality
  • Work safely in the manufacturing production environment
  • Follow detailed verbal/written assembly instructions, processes, and procedures
  • Properly fill out basic forms, reports, and label products correctly that pertain to job duties
  • Communicate and work effectively with others
  • Provide hands-on and verbal job function training to coworkers and trainees as needed
  • Report problems with quality, processes, equipment and materials to the Production Supervisor or member of management
  • Record daily all work performed and correct distribution of work time
  • Use software systems as needed to complete job duties
  • Contribute to culture of high-quality products
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions
  • Perform other job-related duties as directed by supervisor per CBA and company policies
  • The Supervisor will instruct each employee in the responsibilities as listed in the procedures
  • The Supervisor will inform each employee where to access the procedure manual
Job Expectations
  • Ability to work with your hands
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to lift and/or move 25 pounds, and up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures (hot/cold)
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach at arm's length, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Ability to use power tools, air tools, and other vibratory tools
  • Ability to work around hot heavy machinery
  • Ability to work from a standing position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to move materials with a powered vehicle (forklift)
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Repetitive standing, bending, turning, and twisting for extended periods of time
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision and color vision
  • Must be able to pass a basic aptitude test, physical, with drug/alcohol test and background screen
  • Candidates must be available to work all shifts including possible mandatory overtime on weekends
  • Previous experience in a foundry setting

Work is scheduled in 8 to 10 hour shifts on Monday through Friday with the possibility of mandatory overtime throughout the week and on the weekend. Overtime is paid based on the current and applicable collective bargaining agreement. The facility does have multiple shifts, employees MUST be flexible and may be required to change shifts.
