Job summary

DTE Energy is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to perform maintenance on operating and service equipment in a heavy industrial environment at our River Rouge site. Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary

Location: River Rouge, MI

Performs all maintenance functions necessary to maintain all operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment including mobile equipment as required. Operates equipment in conjunction with repairs and aids in operating functions as necessary to maintain continuity of operations. May work alone, with minimal supervision or with other Maintenance Technicians and coordinates and works in conjunction with operating team members in the performance of maintenance tasks.

This role participates in our structured Pay for Skill Program, offering advancement from Technician I to Technician III with sublevels A, B, and C. This job has three levels (A, B, C) that an individual may progress through once the minimum experience requirement is met and individual shows a clear understanding of job functions. Each task is assigned points according to complexity. The Mechanical Maintenance Tech I may progress to the next level when 45 points of specified task proficiency is accumulated. Accumulating 45 points will earn the Mechanical Maintenance Tech the mid-range pay rate, and 85 points will progress the mechanic to the third and highest pay rate within that level.

Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A valid driver's license
  • 1-3 years of heavy industrial experience to provide the following:
    • Must be proficient in precision cutting with burning torch.
    • Must have ability to arc weld (SMAW) in 2F & 3F positions.
    • Must have basic pipe threading and fitting skills.
    • Must have basic rigging knowledge and experience.
    • Must have basic print reading abilities.
    • Strong safety experience
    • Ability to work in a team orientated atmosphere
    • Demonstrated capability to achieve results through people, technology, and processing equipment
    • Good knowledge of the assigned area(s) of responsibility
    • Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
    • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader
    • Must be goal oriented
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, and management
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license

  • Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally, crawl
  • Enter and work in confined space areas
  • Talk & hear; use hands & fingers; handle & feel; and able to reach with hands and arms extensively
  • Frequent operations of controls with occasional driving and fine hand function manipulations of tools and equipment
  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be clean shaven (except mustaches that are above the lower lip and do not affect the respirator seal) when reporting to work

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and equipment with high temperatures. Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; fire retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). The noise level in the work environment may occasionally go above the threshold, requiring PPE.

Benefits

The position includes health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance starting day one of employment. Currently, we are offering a $2,500 signing bonus and an additional $2,500 upon successful completion of the probationary period of 1,040 hours. This position also receives quarterly bonuses of up to $7,500 per year, based on EES Coke Battery's quality and production.

Hourly rate is $37.49. Pay range: $36.15 - $38.83.

The person in this job will work a 12-hour rotating shift. The schedule is a 4-week rotation; you will work 14 out of 28 days with 7 days off in a row somewhere within the 4-week rotation.

This is not a position with Detroit Edison, it's a position with EES Coke Battery, which is a subsidiary of DTE Energy.
