Job description

The role of Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor includes, but it not limited to: Managing the Mechanical personnel in the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment within the facility is maintained according to the OEM’s standards. This person will also work with the Engineering and Operations Departments to effectively schedule and plan all P.M. activities, changeovers and outages.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

Qualifications
  • 1.1. High School Diploma and 3 – 5 years of experience in supervisory role in a manufacturing facility. Hands on experience preferred.
  • 1.2. Have good reporting skills and the ability to document the detailed activities of the department both verbally and in written form. Must be able to communicate and speak effectively to large groups in a “meeting type” environment.
  • 1.3. Must have good project planning skills.
  • 1.4. Be able and available to work extended hours when situations arise such as emergency breakdowns and scheduled outages.
  • 1.5. Effectively work with various vendors and outside contractors for project planning and parts pricing negotiations.
  • 1.6. Ability to read/make documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure/equipment manuals as well as electrical/Mechanical schematic drawings. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to communicate effectively with co-workers.
  • 1.7. Spanish as a second language would be beneficial but not required.
  • 1.8. Hands-on experience with industrial utility systems including cooling towers, industrial air compressors, process and wastewater treatment systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and related piping systems is strongly preferred. Experience with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and operational support of facility utility systems is considered a significant advantage.
Responsibilities
  • 2.1. Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • 2.2. Supervises mechanical maintenance personnel over the assigned section of the plant maintenance (Slitter &Mill or Finishing Depts).
  • 2.3. Ensures that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • 2.4. Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • 2.5. Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians.
  • 2.6. Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • 2.7. Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • 2.8. Communicates directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work.
  • 2.9. Ensure the continuous improvement methods and 5S are always in effect on the responsibility area.
  • 2.10. Supports HSE-related programs that will increase awareness and promote a safety culture.
  • 2.11. Oversees maintenance, reliability, and operational support of plant utility systems including cooling towers, compressed air systems, industrial pumps, water treatment systems, wastewater management equipment, and associated distribution infrastructure.
Activities
  • 3.1. Coordinates activities with Plant Operations Departments.
  • 3.2. Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
  • 3.3. Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems.
  • 3.4. Ensures that all maintenance technicians are trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures.
  • 3.5. Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel.
  • 3.6. Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
  • 3.7. Input of Work Orders through the CMMS of the Maintenance Department.
  • 3.8. Prepare reports on equipment performance and efficiency.
  • 3.9. Other duties as assigned.
  • 3.10 Monitors performance and maintenance requirements of plant utility systems including cooling towers, compressed air systems, water treatment and wastewater systems to ensure reliable operation and compliance with environmental and operational standards.
Authority and Obligation
  • 4.1. This position has the authority to stop an operation if he/she deems it necessary, for reasons of imminent safety and/or possible equipment damage. However, he/she must notify the Operations Supervisor on duty and follow the established notification procedure if the interruption is for an extended time period.
