The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, Kentucky, has an opening for a Mechanical Maint & Operations Tech I.

The role focuses on maintaining and repairing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems across the campus, installing equipment as needed, and keeping detailed records. It is a full-time position with overtime eligibility and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties in the maintenance and operation of air conditioning, heating, ventilation, and electrical systems for the Kentucky School for the Blind.
• Repairs and maintains air conditioning, heating, ventilation, electrical systems, and associated equipment on campus.
• Provides technical assistance in the maintenance and operation of heating and cooling equipment. Installs equipment needed for the repairs of these systems (i.e. motors, belts, etc.)
• Repairs and maintains electrical and plumbing operations.
• Replaces wiring, sinks, faucets, faucet hardware.
• Keeps basic records of all repair and replacement activities, including dates and pieces repaired or replaced.
• Inspects and checks for the working performance of equipment to ensure they are performing up to code specifications.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: NONE

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.

Working Conditions

May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
