Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. in Bridgeville, PA, is seeking a Mechanical Lab Technician to support laboratory testing and manufacturing processes.

You will perform tensile, impact, and hardness testing, prepare samples, document results, and work across multiple production areas while following safety procedures.

On-the-job training and cross-department training are provided to develop skills and advance in a safety‑driven, quality‑focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Cross-department training will be provided to develop skills across multiple areas.
• Previous manufacturing or laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience with tensile, impact, or hardness testing preferred.
• Experience operating laboratory or manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Experience with machining equipment, saws, CNC equipment, or heat treat processes preferred.

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc., established in 1994, is headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, with plants in North Jackson, OH, Dunkirk, NY, and Titusville, PA. Universal Stainless produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate including stainless steel, tool steel, bearing steel, gear steel, and aircraft quality low alloy steels for use in a variety of industries. The Mechanical Lab Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory testing and manufacturing processes across multiple areas. Employees will receive on-the-job training and cross-department training and will be trained to work in multiple areas throughout the operation.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Perform laboratory testing and material testing activities.
• Prepare samples for testing
• Perform tensile, impact, and hardness testing.
• Work in areas including Receiving, Milling, Etching, Chemical Lab, Hardness Testing, Tensile Testing, Impact Testing, Saws, Heat Treat, and CNC Lathe.
• Employees may work in one or two areas during a given shift based on operational needs.
• Operate laboratory and manufacturing equipment following appropriate training.
• Accurately document testing results and required information.
• Follow established procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
• Participate in 5S and housekeeping projects
• Work cooperatively with laboratory, manufacturing, quality, and other departments.
• Participate in cross-department training and learn additional processes and equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety-Sensitive Position

THIS IS A SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION. PROPER USE OF ALL REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) IS MANDATORY.

Employees must follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements for their assigned work area.

Employees must be willing and able to comply with all required PPE, safety procedures, and work practices.

Work Environment:

• Work is performed in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
• Some work areas are temperature controlled, including the Chemical Lab, Tensile Testing, and Impact Testing areas.
• Employees may work around manufacturing equipment, materials, chemicals, and laboratory testing processes.
• Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment is required.

Experience:

• Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
• Previous laboratory or materials testing experience preferred.
• Experience with tensile, impact, or hardness testing preferred.
• Experience operating laboratory or manufacturing equipment preferred.
• Experience working around chemicals preferred.
• Experience with machining equipment, saws, CNC equipment, or Heat Treat processes preferred.

Education/Training:

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Previous laboratory or manufacturing experience is preferred but not required.
• On-the-job training will be provided.
• Cross-department training will be provided to develop skills across multiple areas.

Schedule:

• Full-time hourly position.
• 8-12-hour shifts.
• Start times may be flexible based on department and operational needs.
• Overtime is required as needed.
• Work schedules may reach up to 72 hours per week based on operational requirements.
• Flexibility to work in different areas and departments is required.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, and work in a manufacturing/laboratory environment for extended periods.
• Must be able to wear required PPE for assigned work areas.
