Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico is seeking a Mechanical Systems Insulator tradesperson to install, repair and maintain insulation on pipelines and equipment across facilities.

You will consult with suppliers, engineers and coworkers to select the most suitable insulating materials, cover surfaces, and insulate valves, flanges and elbows, ensuring proper finishes and safety. DOE Q clearance may be required. The team offers flexible work arrangements and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience as a fully qualified mechanical systems insulator.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• Experience insulating piping and mechanical distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain insulation on pipelines and equipment.
• Consult with suppliers, engineers and coworkers to select suitable insulating material.
• Identify and inventory insulating materials and cover surfaces by cutting, fitting and fastening.
• Insulate valves, flanges and elbows using wire mesh and sheet material; apply final coats.
• Follow safety practices and work in confined spaces as required.
