Job summary

The City of Battle Creek is seeking a Mechanical Inspector to perform complex inspections for compliance with Michigan Mechanical Codes and city ordinances. You will review plans, respond to inquiries, and issue notices when violations are found, under the supervision of the Chief Building Official.

Responsibilities include inspecting devices, educating contractors and the public, and preparing detailed reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Licensed/certified as Mechanical Inspector or Mechanical Contractor or Journeyman (8,000 hrs over 4 years).
• Valid Michigan registration as Mechanical Inspector or ability to provisional register within 30 days and obtain at first available date.

Responsibilities

• Inspect mechanical devices and installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for code compliance.
• Review permits, blueprints, and plans for mechanical code conformity.
• Educate contractors and the public on code requirements.
• Investigate complaints about unlicensed work or unpermitted installations.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and communicate findings clearly.
