Job Summary

Winston‑Salem State University (WSSU) seeks a Mechanical HVAC Technician to join the Housing and Residence Life Facilities team. The Technician reports to the Facilities Manager for Housing and Residence Life and provides preventative maintenance to campus HVAC systems, steam and chilled water distribution systems, and controls. The position requires working on call during scheduled dates and times and may include callback work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Inspect HVAC systems for performance issues and safety risks.
• Identify leaks, faulty parts, and other issues using diagnostic tools.
• Inspect system controls and safety features to determine root causes.
• Check airflow and system pressures for preventative maintenance.
• Clean and replace filters, ducts, and vents.
• Clean coils, lubricate moving parts such as motors or fans, and refill and recharge refrigerants.
• Mount and connect compressors, evaporators, and thermostats.
• Maintain records of repairs and maintenance performed.
• Manage work orders in Team Dynamix.
• Adhere to safety procedures at all times and use protective equipment when necessary.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency; demonstration of required competencies.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license.
• Universal CFC certification.
• Minimum three years of experience in preventive and corrective maintenance of building systems.
• Knowledge of plumbing, HVAC (split systems), electrical, and general maintenance practices.
• Ability to work on call, during adverse weather, and emergency callbacks.
• Physical ability to lift and move machinery as required.
