Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Provide daily mechanical support to forming operations and respond to machine downtime using safe, structured troubleshooting.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain gears, shafts, bearings, bushings, chains, belts, couplings, clutches, brakes, cams, slides, gibs, linkages, feeders, straighteners, cutters, lubrication systems, guards, pneumatic components, and hydraulic components.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, including lubrication, alignment checks, wear inspection, backlash and clearance checks, fastener verification, filter service, vibration observation, and replacement of worn components.
- Set up and mechanically adjust feed length, wire straightening, slides, cams, forming stations, transfer mechanisms, tooling clearances, pressure settings, and machine timing within approved standards.
- Troubleshoot part defects related to feed variation, cut length, bend angle, form location, pitch, twist, burrs, surface damage, tooling wear, timing, material handling, and mechanical repeatability.
- Remove, install, inspect, fit, align, and support repair of forming tools, dies, cams, slides, guides, feed rolls, grippers, cutters, arbors, mandrels, bearings, bushings, and related machine components.
- Use mechanical drawings, machine assembly prints, tooling drawings, cam layouts, lubrication charts, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams, setup sheets, and OEM manuals to diagnose and restore equipment.
- Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages, pin gages, feeler gages, angle measurement, straightedges, torque tools, and alignment tools to verify machine and tooling condition.
- Perform precision mechanical work including bearing and bushing replacement, shaft and coupling alignment, gib adjustment, chain and belt tensioning, gear mesh checks, timing verification, and controlled fitting of components.
- Use HMI alarms, indicator status, sensors, and interlocks only as supporting information for mechanical troubleshooting. Escalate electrical, PLC, drive, and program-related repairs to qualified controls or electrical personnel.
- Support equipment installation, relocation, leveling, alignment, commissioning, run-at-rate activities, capability improvement, and acceptance of new or rebuilt equipment.
- Complete work orders, PM records, downtime notes, measurements, parts usage, shift handoff, and repair history accurately.
- Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective actions, spare-parts planning, and PM improvement for repeated mechanical failures.
- Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, lifting and rigging, stored-energy control, housekeeping, environmental, and plant safety requirements.
- Coordinate repairs with Production, Tooling, Quality, Engineering, and service providers to protect part quality and minimize downtime.
- Train operators and less-experienced technicians on lubrication points, inspection checks, basic mechanical fault recognition, and standard recovery methods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Formal industrial maintenance, machine repair, millwright, tool-and-die, machining, or related mechanical technical training; Journeyman status is preferred.
- Five or more years of industrial mechanical maintenance or forming-equipment experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, lubrication, tooling, feeding, timing, and motion-related systems in a production environment.
- Experience with four-slide, multi-slide, CNC wire-bending, spring/wire-forming, stamping, or comparable cam-driven forming equipment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work assigned shift, overtime, weekends, and emergency call-in coverage as required.
Mechanical Competencies
- Advanced mechanical fault isolation, including wear, looseness, misalignment, backlash, binding, vibration, timing variation, and lubrication-related failures.
- Working knowledge of machine timing, cam and slide motion, wire feeding and straightening, forming sequence, tooling alignment, and
