Job summary

Jacobs in Spartanburg, SC is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Professional to design, evaluate, and prepare recommendations for facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, chilled water, coolant, fire protection, plumbing, and process piping. You will work with client owners, site personnel, and contractors to deliver retrofit and new-system projects.

The role requires ABET-accredited mechanical engineering, strong communication, and ability to lead within multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university.
• 3+ years of practical experience in mechanical facilities design (HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing).

As a field mechanical engineer, you will work on projects that enable the heart of our client’s data center site. You and other team members will work closely with client owners in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. In this role you will collaborate with on‑site personnel to support projects of varying size and complexity including assessment of systems, consulting system owners and analyzing scope requests from stakeholders.

As a Mechanical Engineering Professional, you will be responsible for interacting with the client, contractors, and site personnel in Spartanburg, SC. Your job includes designing, developing, evaluating, and preparing recommendations with basis of design (BOD), scope of work (SOW) documents, in addition to design, construction and specifications documents through the positional (programming) process with a team. You will also oversee engineering and construction for the facility mechanical systems work including HVAC, chilled water systems, technical coolant systems, fire protection, plumbing, process‑piping and equipment. The work will include retrofits of existing building systems, as well as new systems.

What To Expect In This Role

• Reviewing vendor submittal packages against client requirements and specifications

• Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, RFI’s, and submittals to ensure adherence to quality requirements.
• Track and document non‑conformance reports (NCRs) and oversee corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
• Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to enforce quality standards and resolve issues.
• Oversee and inspect construction activities to verify workmanship, alignment, and adherence to project requirements.
• Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to enforce quality standards and resolve issues.
• Support pre‑installation meetings, punch lists, and final inspections to ensure project milestones are met.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of safety regulations, and industry best practices.

Here’s what you’ll need

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university
• At least 3 years of practical application of mechanical facilities design engineering, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing, and related mechanical facilities systems
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi‑disciplinary teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and leadership experience
• Solid knowledge and application of building codes and other related standards (ASHRAE, ASME, etc.)
• Solid knowledge in practice and procedures for specifications and selection of all types of mechanical equipment and components
• Proficient working knowledge of design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
• Passionate about buildings and construction.

Ideally you’ll also have

• EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
• 5 years of experience working on site or as a facility engineer
• Working knowledge of design‑related deliverables, such as P&IDs, PFDs, Details, and Equipment Plans, etc.
• Proficiency with industry‑standard HVAC load and energy modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 700, or Trane Trace 3D.
• Experience coordinating work packages with contractors/subcontractors

Location

• This is an on‑site position requiring work to be performed on the client site in Spartanburg, SC. If applicant is not located in the region, relocation assistance may be available
• Candidate will be required to be on site Monday‑Friday during normal business hours – nominally 800 am to 500 pm.

Physical Requirements

• Position requires field visits and walks at an active client site in various stages of construction. Applicant must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks, work in small spaces, lift and carry up to 25lbs.

The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $121,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
