Job summary

Jacobs in Spartanburg, SC is seeking a Field Mechanical Engineer to support on-site projects at a data center client site. You will review vendor submittals, coordinate with subcontractors, perform field inspections, and ensure alignment with contract drawings and safety standards.

Ideal candidates have ABET-accredited mechanical engineering degree, 3+ years of facilities design experience (HVAC, piping, exhaust), strong communication, and familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and ACC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university.
• 3+ years of practical application in mechanical facilities design engineering (HVAC, hydronics, piping, exhaust, plumbing).
• Ability to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams and strong written/verbal communication.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASME).
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit and ACC.

As a field mechanical engineer, you will work on projects that enable the heart of our client’s data center site. You and other team members will work closely with client owners in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. In this role you will collaborate with on-site personnel to support projects of varying size and complexity including assessment of systems, consulting system owners and analyzing scope requests from stakeholders.

What To Expect In This Role

• Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to enforce quality standards and resolve issues.
• Oversee and inspect construction activities to verify workmanship, alignment, and adherence to project requirements.

Here’s what you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited university
• At least 3 years of practical application of mechanical facilities design engineering, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing, and related mechanical facilities systems
• Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and leadership experience
• Solid knowledge and application of building codes and other related standards (ASHRAE, ASME, etc.)
• Solid knowledge in practice and procedures for specifications and selection of all types of mechanical equipment and components
• Proficient working knowledge of design software, such as AutoCAD, Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
• Passionate about buildings and construction

Ideally, you’ll also have

• EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
• 5 years of experience working on site or as a facility engineer
• Working knowledge of design-related deliverables, such as P&IDs, PFDs, Details, and Equipment Plans, etc.
• Proficiency with industry-standard HVAC load and energy modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 700, or Trane Trace 3D.
• Experience coordinating work packages with contractors/subcontractors

Location

• This is an on-site position requiring work to be performed on the client site in Spartanburg, SC. If applicant is not located in the region, relocation assistance may be available
• Candidate will be required to be on site Monday-Friday during normal business hours - nominally 800 am to 500 pm .

Physical Requirements

• Position requires field visits and walks at an active client site in various stages of construction. Applicant must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks, work in small spaces, lift and carry up to 25lbs.

The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $121,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
