Project Type: Mission-Critical/ Data Center Construction
Assignment: Full-time project or preconstruction assignment
Estimate Mechanical Scope for a Major Data Center Project
Prepare complete, well-supported estimates for mechanical work on a large data center project. You’ll develop quantities, labor and cost assumptions, review vendor and subcontractor pricing, and help project teams manage scope and costs from early estimating through execution.
What You Will Do
- Prepare conceptual, schematic, design-development, bid, change-order, and forecast estimates for mechanical scopes.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, valves, fittings, supports, insulation, equipment, plumbing, fuel systems, and related work.
- Estimate labor hours, productivity, equipment, indirect costs, escalation, contingency, and schedule impacts.
- Request and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, documenting inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, and commercial risks.
- Review drawings, P&IDs, specifications, equipment schedules, BIM information, and client requirements for scope completeness.
- Prepare estimate summaries, bid tabs, basis-of-estimate narratives, clarifications, and handoff information.
- Support value engineering, constructability reviews, procurement planning, buyout, change management, and estimate-to-actual reviews.
- Maintain cost history and production data for data center cooling and mechanical systems.
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, procurement, project controls, vendors, and field leadership.
What You Will Bring
- 5 or more years of experience in mechanical estimating, project controls, project management, or field leadership.
- Data center or mission-critical mechanical estimating experience.
- Ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and indirect cost estimates.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods, piping systems, equipment installation, testing, and startup.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and schedules.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills and experience with estimating or takeoff software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Field experience in pipefitting, plumbing, welding, millwright, HVAC, or mechanical project management.
- Experience with BIM-based takeoff and estimate benchmarking.
Work Environment and Schedule
This position is primarily onsite at an active data center construction project in the Lubbock area. Regular coordination may take place in office, field, equipment, and active construction environments. The schedule may include extended hours, weekends, holidays, outages, or shift coverage as project milestones require.
