Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an Estimator to assist with preliminary budgets, conceptual and detail estimates for smaller, less complex projects, leveraging cost data and drawings. You’ll perform material take-offs, analyze drawings, and help prepare bid packages, while tracking quantities and resolving discrepancies.

Qualified candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering (or equivalent), strong communication, analytical skills, and proficiency in Excel, Word,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred, or trade school or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Basic ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
• Basic ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
• General knowledge of construction costs and principles
• Basic ability to perform mathematical calculations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and prorations to practical situations
• Basic drafting skills
• Competent Excel and Word skills
• Basic knowledge of QuickPen Auto Bid Mechanical and Sheet Metal Estimating software

Responsibilities

• Assists with developing project updates and bid package estimate documents’ comparison.
• Tracks and adjusts quantities as needed. Assists with resolving discrepancies.
• Assists with researching and compiling historical cost data and keeps database current for use in future estimate preparation.
• Maintains file of working project documents for back-up to estimating figures.
• Responds to basic questions from internal managers.

Pay:Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California, this ranges from $90,388.00 - $106822.00 plus annual incentive, benefits, and retirement program as outlined above.
