Job Description

The purpose of your role as an Estimator is to prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. Disciplines may include plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems. You will independently estimate small to medium sized plan/spec, design assist, or design build projects.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines.
  • Determine applicable project plans and specifications.
  • Estimate quantities, sizes, distances, time, costs, materials, and labor required to perform work activities.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to produce complete takeoffs of scope of work.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  • Develop proposals for current or prospective customers.
  • Provide accurate project cost estimates.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, comparing actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Review material and labor requirements to determine the most cost‑effective outcome.
  • Obtain quotes from subcontractors and vendors, adhering to scope and specification.
  • Document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliers.
  • Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures.
  • Support other department personnel as required, including preparing estimates in other disciplines.
  • Contribute to a safety‑centric work culture.
  • Contribute to the desired culture within the organization.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or related preferred.
  • 1–5 years of equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year of estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience working with Microsoft Office – Word and Excel.
