Modular Mission Critical, the manufacturing campus for M.C. Dean’s modular product line, seeks skilled assemblers for its Richmond-area site north of the city.

You will assemble, configure, and test a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems, reading drawings and BOMs to ensure precise fit and functional integrity. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED with substantial hands-on experience, strong safety discipline, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights.

Responsibilities

Responsible for assembling, configuring, and preparing a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems for operation, including HVAC equipment, chillers, package units, air handlers, pumping systems, boiler packages, skids, and custom-engineered assemblies.

• Assemble a wide variety of mechanical equipment including air handling units (AHUs), rooftop/package units, chillers, pumping stations, cooling towers, boiler systems, heat exchangers, compressor packages, and custom skid-mounted equipment.
• Interpret mechanical drawings, piping diagrams, equipment layouts, assembly instructions, and bills of material.
• Install and align motors, pumps, compressors, bearings, shafts, couplings, valves, actuators, piping systems, and structural supports.
• Understand and apply equipment-specific assembly requirements, recognizing the differences between various mechanical systems.
• Verify fit-up, alignment, tolerances, torque values, and service clearances prior to final inspection.
• Perform mechanical integrity checks and functional testing.
• Ensure assemblies are built with consideration for maintenance access and future serviceability.
• Prepare completed assemblies for factory testing, shipment, installation, and commissioning.

Specialized Mechanical Knowledge

• Packaged Rooftop Units (RTUs): Economizers, curb adapters, duct connections, gas heat sections, condensate management, and service access requirements.
• Chillers: Evaporator and condenser piping connections, vibration isolation, rigging considerations, and tube-pull service clearances.
• Air Handling Units: Fan sections, filter racks, coils, dampers, casing alignment, and sealing requirements.
• Pumping Systems: Pump and motor alignment, coupling installation, base leveling, and hydronic piping considerations.
• Boiler Systems: Combustion components, venting, gas trains, safety devices, and circulation equipment.
• Custom Mechanical Skids: Integrated piping, pumps, valves, instrumentation, and support structures.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School diploma or GED equivalent with 7+ years of experience
• Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment submittals, and manufacturer instructions.
• Knowledge of alignment practices, piping systems, and mechanical tolerances.

Abilities:

• The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
• Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
• Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
• Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
• Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
• Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
• Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
• Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
• See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Pay Range

USD $29.00 - USD $34.74 /Hr.
