Job summary
This role defines the overall mechanical concept and design approach, establishes priorities, assigns work, and leads designers and engineers in executing the design. The Project Leader translates customer requirements, schedules, budgets, and performance expectations into clear technical direction, while maintaining team focus, resolving technical challenges, making timely decisions, and ensuring projects remain on schedule and meet quality and performance requirements.

- Strong project leadership skills with the ability to organize, direct, and maintain focus within a multidisciplinary design team.
- Ability to define mechanical concepts and translate customer requirements into clear design direction.
- Proven ability to delegate work, establish priorities, monitor progress, and hold team members accountable for commitments.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, automation equipment, and components used in custom machinery.
- Strong mechanical design capability with the ability to develop and execute designs independently while providing technical leadership, direction, and guidance to other designers and engineers. The Project Leader is expected to remain actively involved in hands‑on design work while leading the overall project and design team
- Strong organizational skills with a results‑oriented approach and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, project managers, engineers, designers, technicians, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Ability to identify potential schedule, technical, cost, and resource issues and take action before they impact the project.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 applications.
- Ability to work independently while providing effective leadership within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%, both nationally and internationally
Qualifications/Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electromechanics, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in designing industrial automation equipment, with extensive involvement in production equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Experience within the Automotive and/or Electronics industry is strongly preferred.
Functions & Scope
- Lead the mechanical engineering and design team throughout the complete project lifecycle, from initial concept through final design and implementation.
- Establish the overall mechanical design direction, defining the concept, architecture, approach, and key design decisions required to meet project objectives.
- Translate customer requirements, specifications, budgets, and schedules into clear technical objectives and actionable direction for the design team.
- Break projects into manageable tasks, establish priorities, assign responsibilities, and ensure team members understand expectations and deadlines.
- Keep the design team focused on the highest-priority activities and proactively address distractions, roadblocks, or competing priorities that could affect project progress.
- Monitor team progress against project schedules and milestones, identifying delays or resource constraints early and taking corrective action.
- Provide technical leadership and direction without unnecessarily taking ownership of work that should be executed by the design team.
- Review work in progress, provide feedback, and ensure designs remain aligned with the established concept and project objectives.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including design engineers, controls engineers, purchasers, technicians, contractors, suppliers, and customers as needed.
- Troubleshoot and problem‑solve technical challenges as they arise, maintaining project momentum and quality standards.
- Mentor and develop designers and engineers by providing technical guidance, coaching, and opportunities for increased responsibility.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results‑oriented project team environment.
- Promote and maintain the organization and work in a standardized manner according to ISO 9001.
