Job summary

Northrop Grumman seeks a Mechanical Engineering Manager 1 to lead a hardware team at the Chantilly, VA site, guiding staffing, performance reviews, and technical delivery for SIDE OU programs. You will mentor engineers, manage budgets, and align with company policies to achieve program goals.

The role requires daily onsite work, strong leadership, and hands-on design, analysis, and integration across mechanical, electrical, and support functions in a fast-paced defense environment.

Qualifications

• US citizen and eligible for U.S. government clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of experience OR Masters degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Strong communication and leadership of diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, MIL-STD, ASME) and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate staffing, performance reviews, and career development for team members.
• Define and update technical process documents and ensure quality execution.
• Provide engineering design and technical support across SIDE OU systems.
• Lead IPTs and manage program status, risks, and resource allocation.
• Ensure cost/schedule targets and effective collaboration with program management.
