We Are Zenith is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering lecturer to plan, deliver, and assess Level 2/3 programmes, including apprenticeships. The role involves practical and theoretical content, ongoing progress monitoring, and securing high standards across HE and FE provision.

The post requires delivering apprenticeship standards, engaging with employers, and contributing to curriculum design and quality assurance.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification or above in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
  • Commitment to achieving a recognised teaching qualification if not already held.
  • Degree or Higher National qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent).
  • Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurance qualifications.
  • Higher Education teaching experience.
  • Experience working within the Mechanical Engineering sector.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, engineering science, and related technologies.
  • Experience delivering training, coaching, mentoring, or teaching.
  • Experience assessing learner performance and providing constructive feedback.
  • Experience teaching within Further Education.
  • Experience delivering apprenticeship standards.
  • Experience teaching Higher Education engineering programmes.
  • Experience using engineering workshop machinery, CAD software, and industry-standard equipment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective classroom and workshop management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners of all ages and abilities.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and virtual learning platforms.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
  • Knowledge of current apprenticeship standards and funding requirements.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance and inspection frameworks.
  • Experience of employer engagement and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons across Mechanical Engineering programmes.
  • Teach and assess Level 2 and Level 3 engineering qualifications, including full-time students and apprentices.
  • Deliver practical and theoretical engineering content in line with awarding body requirements.
  • Provide high-quality learning experiences that develop learners' knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
  • Monitor student progress and implement strategies to improve retention, achievement, and attendance.
  • Differentiate learning to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities and backgrounds.
  • Deliver apprenticeship standards and associated technical qualifications.
  • Support apprentices in developing occupational competence and workplace skills.
  • Work collaboratively with employers to ensure training meets industry requirements.
  • Contribute to apprentice reviews and progress monitoring activities.
  • Develop and assess assignments, practical assessments, and examinations.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and developmental feedback to learners.
  • Maintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress, and achievement.
  • Participate in internal verification, standardisation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with awarding organisation and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the design, review, and continuous improvement of engineering programmes.
  • Ensure curriculum content remains current and aligned with industry developments.
  • Support the development of employer engagement activities and industry partnerships.
  • Assist in the promotion and recruitment of engineering courses.
  • Deliver Higher Education engineering modules where qualifications and experience permit.
  • Support Higher Education students through academic guidance, assessment, and project supervision.
  • Contribute to quality and compliance requirements associated with HE provision.
  • Act as a personal tutor as required.
  • Promote positive learner behaviours, inclusion, safeguarding, and wellbeing.
  • Support learners in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals.
  • Participate in curriculum meetings, staff development activities, and college events.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of engineering practices and educational developments.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations within engineering workshops and classrooms.
  • Adhere to all college policies and procedures, including safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
