Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Science.
• Minimum cumulative GPA 3.00 for all degrees earned.
• 10+ years of industry experience in mechanical product design.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals (beam bending, static analysis, material properties, heat transfer, etc.).
• Familiarity and hands-on experience with injection molding, stamping, forming, extrusion, and machining.
• Willingness to travel 10% of the time, sometimes with limited notice.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship for this position.

Responsibilities

• Oversee engineering of efficient, scalable, high-quality systems upon which world-class products can be built.
• Integrate all aspects of design: aesthetics, function, user interface, manufacturability, lifecycle.
• Assure a high standard of quality in your own work and in your team’s work via design practices, testing, and reviews.
• Supervise, mentor, and coach colleagues, expanding team effectiveness and providing performance feedback.
• Lead by example and help the team meet deliverables by working alongside them.
• Champion clear communication of technical information with deep fundamental understanding.
• Identify cost reduction and product improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing and other locations to introduce new products and components.
• Identify, propose, and implement improvements to tools, equipment, and lab space.
• Work with purchasing to source and qualify production tooling.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing and customer issues with proactive problem-solving.
• Stay current with emerging technologies, materials, manufacturing methods, and industry trends.
• Stay aligned to Lutron’s culture and values.
