Arup’s Mechanical Engineering team seeks a Summer 2027 Mechanical Engineering Intern to contribute to sustainable building services across healthcare, aviation and cultural projects. You’ll design HVAC systems, perform energy and load analyses, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions.

Eligible students should be pursuing Mechanical, Architectural or Civil Engineering degrees, and may hold or be near FE certification.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Architectural or Civil Engineering.
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering examination.
• Coursework in energy/thermal modeling and Revit/3D modeling preferred.
• Coursework in HVAC design, heat transfer and thermodynamics.

Responsabilités

• Design HVAC services for built environment with sustainable design focus.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers and consultants on complex buildings.
• Perform engineering analysis and modeling incl. whole building load, energy, façade thermal, and airflow.
• Communicate technical ideas to a broad audience via presentations/workshops.

The opportunity

• Design of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) services within the built environment, with an emphasis on sustainable design
• Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to develop integrated solutions for complex buildings
• Perform engineering analysis and modelling, including whole building load calculations and energy analysis, façade thermal analysis, and airflow modelling.
• Communicate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences using various formats, including presentations and workshops
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Civil Engineering
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering examination;
• Membership in ASHRAE, USGBC, ASME
• Coursework in Energy/thermal modeling experience, Revit or 3D modeling experience and/or sustainability;
• Advanced computational modeling (e.g., CFD);
• AutoCAD or Revit drafting skills preferred;
• Coursework in heat transfer and thermodynamics, fluid dynamicsor HVAC design
• Developing interest in the built environment
• Courses in sustainability or USGBC participation preferred

To be considered for an intern opportunity, your application must include a copy of your cv/resume and meet the following criteria:

• Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future
• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role

Houston Hiring Range – Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $22.00 to $43.50 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Houston will differ.
