Job summary

RTX's Collins Aerospace internship offers hands-on experience in the Air Data Sensors design team. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern you will contribute to integrating sensor packaging, prototype build/testing, design for manufacturing, and documentation while working on advanced air data sensors.

You will support Design Engineers in CAD design, thermal analysis, material science, system testing, data collection, and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the internship/co-op.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Onshape, or NX (on-the-job, coursework, or projects).
  • MATLAB and engineering drawings are a plus.
  • Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams.
  • Minimum of 60 credit hours by start of internship/co-op.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical CAD design, thermal analysis, material science, system testing, data collection, and analyzing test data.
  • Support Design Engineers in areas listed above.
  • Participate in design decision making and lab prototype testing.
  • Work within multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams to execute projects on plan.
  • Access to world-class labs and wind tunnel facilities to support sensor development.

What You Will Do

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Collins Aerospace, you will work in the Air Data Sensors (ADS) design team and be responsible for working on integrated product teams to develop new, advanced air data sensors products while also supporting existing products in production. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will be part of an integrated research and development team focused on developing new sensor technology. The intern should have a broad interest in the field of engineering. You will be engaged in new and existing product design, including but not limited to the design of sensor packaging, prototype build/test activities, design for manufacturing, and documentation.

Provide support to Design Engineers in areas such as:

  • mechanical CAD design
  • thermal analysis
  • material science
  • system testing
  • data collection
  • analyzing test data

Participate in design decision making and lab prototype testing.

Work fluidly within multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams executing projects according to plan.

You will have access to a world class wind tunnel, environmental test lab, and forensics investigation lab to help our team continue delivering industry leading air data solutions.

The intern engineer should be a highly motivated self-starter capable of driving tasks and small projects to completion on time and on budget.

Qualifications
  • You Must Have Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as Creo, SolidWorks, Onshape, and/or NX Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
  • Qualifications We Prefer Experience with MATLAB and engineering drawings.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Outlook).
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams.
  • A minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Onsite Role Definition

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. As part of our commitment to maintaining a secure hiring process, candidates may be asked to attend select steps of the interview process in-person at one of our office locations, regardless of whether the role is designated as on-site, hybrid or remote.

Salary Range

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD.
