Job summary

IMEG, a 100% employee‑owned engineering firm in Naperville, IL, is offering a Summer 2027 Mechanical Engineering Internship. Over 10–12 weeks you will assist in the analysis, design, and oversight of mechanical systems for vertical building projects while collaborating with a team of experienced engineers.

You will support documentation, coordination, site observations, and cross‑disciplinary work across education, government, and healthcare settings, with mentorship and hands‑on project

Qualifications

• Strong interest in design consulting.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM).
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of projects in discipline systems per code and IMEG standards.
• Research commercially available equipment for projects.
• Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and prepare documentation for permanent records.
• Coordinate design and schedule with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, equipment suppliers).
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while tracking progress.
• Review project documents for accuracy before final checks.
• Prepare and issue addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and support services required by the contract.

IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Naperville, IL. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry while working closely with a team of experienced engineers and consultants on real project work.

This internship supports work within project budgets and cross-functional collaboration to help meet project goals and client expectations. You'll also contribute to documentation, coordination, final-check preparation, addenda, and periodic job site observations while supporting projects across education, government, and healthcare settings.

What You'll Do

• Assist with design portions of projects related to discipline systems in accordance with code and IMEG standards

Education

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Salary

$22.00 - $24.00 per hour.
