Job summary

IMEG in Seattle, WA or the Portland/Vancouver area invites a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. Over 10-12 weeks, you will assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for building types, gaining hands-on experience alongside engineers and consultants.

This paid internship is in-office with a clear path to full-time opportunities within a 100% employee-owned firm and structured mentorship across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required.
• Strong interest in design consulting.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
• Preferred prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with mechanical system design for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards.
• Assist with engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry.
• Support equipment research and selection for commercially available systems.
• Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
• Assist with coordination of design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams.
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
