Mechanical Engineering Intern for Photonics Physics Package R&D - 996 at Quantinuum, US Broomfield, CO. A intern-level full time position in the Internships/Students team, listed under hardware engineering.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for Photonics Physics Package R&D in our Broomfield, CO location to support trapped-ion integrated photonics R&D team.
Our diverse team of engineers and scientists develops optics and integrated photonics technologies that enable scaling of our trapped-ion quantum computers from our current 98-qubit Helios system to our future Lumos system with hundreds of thousands of qubits. The data, designs, and expertise from our group inform our next-generation systems, from the overall architecture to the tiniest of details. We are looking for more collaborative engineers and scientists to join our cross-disciplinary team.
WE VALUE
- Curiosity towards vacuum systems, cryogenics, precision mechanics, optics, photonics, or scientific instrumentation and their connection to quantum computing
- Strong problem-solving skills with a willingness to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary systems.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Onshape.
- Hands-on experience designing, fabricating, or assembling mechanical systems in a laboratory, research, academic, or industry setting.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design for manufacturing principles.
- Experience operating rapid prototyping tools or working with machine shops and vendors.
- Familiarity with structural, thermal, vibration, or finite element analysis methods.
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar) for automation, analysis, or test equipment control.
