Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Denver to apply standard engineering techniques for design systems and update drawings under supervision. The role supports lead engineers on diverse projects across market segments, with emphasis on problem solving and effective communication.

Candidates should be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program with a strong GPA, ABET preference, and prior internship or related experience.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
  • Currently enrolled and in good standing in a related post-secondary program.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship/consulting experience preferred.
  • Active involvement in campus or community activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager to grow in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering techniques to design systems and improve existing designs.
  • Assist lead engineers with project duties across market segments.
  • Correct and update designs under supervision and guidance.
  • Support team tasks and contribute to project milestones.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

1898 & Co.

1898 & Co. is a global business, technology and security consultancy serving critical infrastructure industries. This includes turning business and technology insights into strategic solutions that leverage industry knowledge to build a more intelligent, resilient future.

Global Facilities

The Global Facilities group is responsible for the planning and design of manufacturing facilities, district energy systems, data centers and mission-critical facilities. This includes work across diverse industries, including aerospace, space and defense, food and beverage, life sciences and technology, consumer products, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, guiding projects from site selection through startup.

Power

The Power group is responsible for the planning, design, and startup of power generation and decarbonization technologies. This includes gas turbines, utility-scale battery storage, hydrogen electrolysis, carbon capture technologies, solar, and nuclear plant services.

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

Qualifications
  • Pursuit of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program.

  • ABET accreditation strongly preferred.

  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Compensation

$19.00-36.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
